My son is officially a Guam sailor now.....arrived over the weekend.    He seems to be settled in - for the most part.  The time difference hit him yesterday.....but he is adjusting.

Communication with him has been great - figured out the best (and least expensive) way to communicate with him.  4 days down, 726 to go.  Haha!

My son has been in Guam since August. We had his cell phone unlocked and he purchased a local SIM card which he is able to use in his cell phone.

My son took his U.S. phone so he could talk to us as he traveled. But the U.S. phone didn't work there. He got a phone in Guam to use there. We suspended his U.S. service here once he arrived in Guam and he reactivated it whenever he came home.

Check out USO Operation Birthday Cake. They work with the commands, take pics to send you as well. My son watched his buddy get one delivered to him on the boat! Mine is in the works, but he is currently out.

My son arrived in Guam mid July and seems to be doing well and adjusting to island life. He is on the Chicago. It was out when he arrived, so he has not been out to sea yet. My family is still very much in the early learning curve of all things military! He has received his first package - took about two weeks!

Well, I was pleasantly surprised - my son got his package in under 2 weeks, intact.

Is he on a sub? Depending, I might be able to help you with that.

Thanks for your quick replies.  I have yet to get an address, but I'd sure like to starting mailing to him so I have an idea about timing before it gets too close to the holidays.

I'm having an issue getting packages to my son. So far 4 have not made it. He is at AAFB and the zip code keeps coming up as FPO instead of APO. Trying to get it straightened out but very slow going. Just suggesting that you keep an eye on that.
