Hello Navy moms I need help
my son will leave FL in 3 and 1/2 weeks and he needs to ship a car to hawaii for his next PCS? move and the car is still under my name, his mom, and I still have a loan on it under my name
how can the car be shipped as part of his move? I have an affidavit signed that he can use it in Pensacola and have him covered as a driver for the car insurance. But now we are not sure if it can be shipped
does anyone have experience on this
Do I have to last minute attempt to transfer the car and loan to his name? Im not even sure how to do that
I cant pay off the car and transfer title clear to him either
Pls help thanks ......he was told he had to drive the car to Georgia and have it shipped there....he failed to ask about this minor detail that its not under his name!!! He was too focused on planning his vacation in between the PCS move, visiting family/friends and girlfriend, that he missed this very important detail
Who should he ask anyways and does anyone have any experience on this.....time is ticking now and we live on the west coast and I have no idea what will happen to this car now and its giving me anxiety
thanks in advance for all the help

When my daughter and Navy son-in-law were moving to Hawaii, we considered shipping her car. We were told it was better to take it to the port of LA to ship it. And we are on the east coast. Her car is also in our name, but no lien. In order for the Navy to reimburse for the cost of shipping, the car would have had to be titled in our son-in-law's name, since they were not married prior to getting his orders to Hawaii. Otherwise, we were free to ship it at our expense. They decided to just buy a car once they got there. FWIW, they bought a nice used car for much less there. Not sure that's much help. He should ask his sponsor for help in finding out the proper information for this.
You can not ship the car to Hawaii if there is a loan on the car. You have to get permission from the loan company to do that. If you did ship it without their consent they can call the loan for violating your contract. I did this without knowing, we did return with the car a year latter but was told by the Bank they could have called in the loan for the car not being in the US mainland if they were aware of it.
My best suggestion is ask the loan company can I move the car to Hawaii. If not, sell the car and give the net proceeds to your Sailor.
Best of luck to your son in Hawaii. A wonderful place to be. I suggest he get a Tour book of Hawaii so he can start planing on places he wants to see and which Islands to go to. We lived in Hawaii for three years and used the tour book for "Insider Information" of where to to and what to see.
