We are attending our sailor's Class 085 graduation on May 16, 2018.  Does anyone know the procedure to get on base?  I have no idea where to go and even where I can go to find out!  Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

My daughter graduated a couple of years ago. If they haven’t changed the policy then your sailor will have to let somebody know who all will be coming. My daughter needed my full name and my drivers license number and state it was issued. At the main gate for the base there is a visitor center off to the right. You have to go there to get a visitor pass. When I went they were very busy. It took about 45 minutes. If you or somebody with you has a DOD ID card I don’t think you need to get the visitor pass. Hopefully this helps you. Have a great time.

Thank you, Diane!

You will have to meet your sailor at Walters gate. You can apply for a pass but the sailor has to be with you. I believe Walter's gate is open 24/7, but it is best to meet your sailor there the day/evening before graduation.

EAJmom, thank you!

We’re here now, just saw DD graduate (Class 080). Nice short ceremony, kind of like a high school graduation. Make sure your camera/phone is all charge up - lots of photo ops.

Within the week, your sailor should be getting your DL# and will “pre-register” you.

When you get here you will go to the Walter Street gate Visitors Center to get your base pass and directions.  Don’t forget your IDs!!

I recommend getting your pass early and then going back for the ceremony. (If you are driving a car). Remember there can be a lot of “hurry up and wait”. We got our pass around 10am, went downtown for lunch, then back to base around 1pm for the 3pm ceremony at Anderson Hall. We drove right on base to Anderson Hall and checked in there (without our sailor - they were rehearsing) Once it gets close to ceremony time, your sailor will come find you in the lobby and escort you to the auditorium.

Enjoy your time in San Antonio!

Hi Kriskris, I'm going to San Antonio this week for my sons Grad (Class 145)  Just wondering if there is additional information you can share regarding the grad and after grad with you sailor.  Any recommendations on places to visit or eat as well would be awesome too!

Thank you.

We spent the week in SA before DD's graduation being tourists.  We took a wine tasting tour in the Fredricksburg area (Cottonwood Wine Tours), spent some time at Riverwalk (river tour and LOTS of restaurants), The Alamo (free history) and the Tower of the Americas .  We were also able to take a day and drive down to Corpus Christi to see the Gulf. We were in our RV at the KOA, so I was able to share some "homecooked" meals with DD and friends.

Let your sailor dictate your time together, he will know his schedule.  The sailors are in school during the day but can usually see you for dinner in the evenings. Don't expect a lot of free time during the weekdays.  After graduation, they are finalizing paperwork for travel to their first duty stations (and Liberty home, hopefully) and cleaning up their barracks room.

Hope this helps. (Sorry for the late reply, I was no longer a member of this group so I missed your question, but was just bouncing around on the N4M site and came across it)
