Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Graduation from San Antonio
Hi All,
My son is scheduled to graduated on March 27th, can anyone tell me what to expect? I do know my son is in the SOC-P program and has had to maintain a certain GPA to continue in the program, I am pretty sure that means that he has to remain on the Dean's List. Does anyone know if they do anything special?
Is it anything like Boot Camp Graduation? How early should I be there? Is it a combo graduation with Airforce and Army? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

my son is graduating the same day! From what I have read its smaller and more intimate. What does SOC-P stand for? I was in the navy but I was an Airman still not up to speed on the seaman language.

I think it stands for special ops corpsman program, or something like that. My son's program that he is in is search and rescue and I know it is special ops type of job and eventually could lead to being a SEAL. He likes to make his mother worry.

I am with you...the countdown ticker on my phone is getting me so excited, last night I even dreamed about graduation and seeing my son. That is awesome that your mom and his older brother are all going to be there. It is just going to be me and best friend attending this one.
Does your son have his orders yet?
My son FINALLY got his last Friday, he had soft orders to go back to Great Lakes but knew that wasn't gonig to be the case. I guess he goes to Pensecola for like 8 weeks then Alabama for a while...I haven't heard all the details though.
So was I right in what SOCP stands for? My son got special ops and I may have blocked the rest out. He told me all about the PT test, I am pretty sure I wouldn't not have survived 5 minutes of the test, I would have passed showing up;)

Hi Kat27, congrats onthe upcoming graduation. My son just grad mar 10. Graduation is at 1400. We got there around 1300. Not like boot camp. You will be able to see your sailor before and after. The graduation last about 30 minutes
They do give awRd for the highest gpa. And awards for leadership. It very short a d sweet. We flew in on friday and spent the weekend with my son. He had liberty after starting around 5ish until around 11. It was nice to see him and meet his friends. Hope this help. There is no limit on people -

I am actually kind of glad it will be more personal, BC graudation was wonderful but it is nice to see your son/daughter personally recognized for their achievments. That being said will they call each sailor out and give them a certificate, kind of like graudating from HS or college?
Do we need a gate pass?
Is business casual attire okay?

My son told me he had to send me something and to remind him. I will ask him again I think we need to be on a list to get on base. I am wearing a dress calf length not fancy but if the weather turns cold I will wear dress pants.

I was thinking about wearing a dress as well. All I have to say is I am expecting Texas weather, it better be at least 70! LOL

You only need you need drivers lics or photo id ,pass port. The base is about 15 min ride from downtown. Just tell them you are sttending the graduation. Ask for direction. It is huge base. Casual dress is fine

My son is going to Japan ugh can't say I'm thrilled but he's excited an we know other military people there. He joined the navy to see the world and the world he will see !! You can PM me I'm not sure if I can leave my email on here. Forgot the rules lol

Hi, I just got back from my son's graduation in SA this past Friday, March 14th. It was very small (about 80 graduates) and more intimate than boot camp. We did get to see him for about 10 minutes prior to the ceremony and 10 minutes after. They had to go back to the dorm after the ceremony and process out and that took about 30-45 minutes. After that, because my son is staying for C School, we were able to have him all to ourselves for the entire weekend and he had to report back on Monday. Tip...when you enter the base on the Walters Gate entrance, you need to make a right turn at the first light (sorry I forgot the name of the street)...anyway, the security at the gate as well as the army and air force personnel did not seem to know where Anderson Hall was so we had to drive around to find it because my son was not answering his phone...make a right turn at the first traffic light after entering the base. Follow the road past the fire station and the hall will be at the first stop sign after passing the fire station on the right hand side. It was cool because when we were driving up, we saw a class in their Navy blues and I knew it had to be his, so we had to stop to let them march by and I was able to get a photo of my son as he's marching by. Enjoy your time there...the weather is VERY Bipolar and the Riverwalk is a great place to sightsee, eat and enjoy a beverage. You do not need to be on the base access list, just have your DL or passport and enter through the Guest entrance which is the far right entrance...
