My son will be finishing up A School in the next few weeks.  Hoping that he would be able to come home after, but that is not going to happen.  He was admitted to C School for Surgical Technician that is also in San Antonio and will class up the Monday after graduation.  My family and I will be making the long trip to visit him and see the graduation.  I have recently been to San Antonio to visit him for his 21st birthday and here is some things I learned.  I stayed at Marriott Courtyard near the airport.  Price was good, parking was free, and the room was very clean.  Instead of meeting my son at base he used Uber to meet me at the hotel. I did bring him back to the base in the evening and getting there from the hotel was easy. Very quick and efficient.  Looking for something to do when the weather is bad...Alamo Drafthouse movie theater.  We were able to have dinner and drinks while watching a movie. For this visit I found that the airfare was cheaper to fly into Austin.  I will again be staying at the Courtyard.  I feel a little more relaxed for this upcoming trip.

Thank you my3sons.  This is very helpful.  My son still has a while to go, he only started A school 6/12. Have a terrific graduation.

Thank you! Please tell your son thank you for his service!!!

You can also stay on the base at Ft Sam. We got to stay in the Frolish house which was the CO's house when the base was first opened. They have also turned the old hospital into hotel rooms. Something different than your normal hotel with lots of history. The base has a bus that goes past the different hotels. It is run by IGH which is part of Holiday Inn. They also have breakfast included and prices are well below those off base. You just have to have your sailor sign you in.

Thank you UFQ202 - this is all great information for when I get ready to go for graduation.

Thank you for the information!!

I'll be down for HM A School graduation Aug 3rd. I was there earlier this month and stayed at the Hyatt Place which was great. This next visit though I think I'm going to try an Air B&B property. There are some really cute and affordable properties to stay in that feel like home.

DogMom23 - Will love to know your experience with the Air B&B.  Thanks! Toni

Oh, and congratulations!

How far was the drive from Austin?  I know it varies, but is there typically any liberty or leave time immediately following graduation?  Since it seems to fall on Wednesday, would we have any time with them Thurs-Sun?
