Hello everyone. I hope you're all doing well! My sweetheart arrived to SA on the 21st and I will be visiting him for Valentine's Day! I am so very new to this all. Could anyone inform me on what I should prepare for? For instance how much time I can spend with him and whenor if we're able to leave the base together. Any info is helpful!!! Thanks gals!

Phase one (lasts 2 weeks unless they get in trouble) they can stay out until 10 any day of the week and must wear uniforms out in public. Phase 2 they can stay out until midnight on the weekends and I think 10 on Sunday and weekdays 1 but, don't have to wear uniforms and lasts about 3 weeks. Phase 3 they can stay out over night on weekends but must be back to base by 10 on Sunday and the other weekdays. I think this was how it went. If you are going Valentines, he probably won't be able to stay out overnight. I saw my daughter in phase 2 and stayed at a hotel on base to make it easier to get her back to the barracks.
Tink what hotel on base did you stay at? I haven't booked a room yet and am not at all familiar with the area! Thank you much in advance!

Go to this webpage. They have 4 to choose from. I stayed at the Ft. Sam Houston House. It was very nice, pretty much like a bed a breakfast. I think it's the most expensive, $106. My daughter's boyfriend stayed at Bldg 592, it was $76 but, him and my daughter both said it wasn't that nice. Don't know about the other two. It was nice being on base and just driving across the base at night to drop her off. If you stay near the Riverwalk, they charge like 25 to 35 just for parking. Keep that in consideration. I just got back from her graduation last week and stayed at the Country Inn and Suites near the airport. Very nice hotel as well. Takes about 10 minutes to get to the base.

Tink, thanks for the reply. I have a question for you, do you have a military id? Or did your daughters boyfriend? I guess basically what I'm asking is if I am eligible to stay at this hotel since I am not a dependent! Thanks in advance for you response!

No, you don't need a military ID. I booked the room (both mine and her BF's) under my daughter's name but, didn't have any problems checking in. You do have to show your license at the gate, but that is anytime you go on base. You just tell them you are styling at the hotel and they will give you directions. I believe ithey are civilian hotels.
Thank you both so very much for the helpful info!!!

Hey,

I actually just got back for visiting my husband who got there on the 15th. I flew up on friday and was able to spend time with him from the time he could sign out which was around 4:30 until midnight. He is in the 2nd phase so you want to check and see what phase he is in because that is what determines his liberty. Also just some general information, visit the river walk its so nice at night. And look up the route from your hotel to the base so that you know what to expect when you get in the cab to go because the first cab ride I took there (Friday afternoon) he drove me all the way around and my hotel was only 1.5 miles away. So I kinda felt like he was just getting money out of me since I wasnt sure what to expect.

thank u all so much for helping me understand my SA son who is still waiting to class up since march 3rd i believe
