And Trish from Texas posted this on 2/1/13 - "In a nutshell, Corpsman can only fill billets (job openings) that are available to them the week that they complete EMT training... The students pick from billets available according to their "GPA" in their class. Whomever has the highest scores at that point picks first, etc. Not all classes have C school billets available, while some may have several, it just depends on the needs of the Navy. Quad Zero means that the Corpsman doesn't have a specialty, and will go on to their first duty station after completing C school as a General Duty Corpsman."

Would you be so kind and tell me, how long was the C school and whether was hard? Currently, my SR is in the BC, GL, IL with PIR on May 3. Then my SR will be heading to San Antonio to A HM school to train for a Surgical Technologist. Where is the C school and for how long. Where can my SR subsequently could be sent? Do you know whether I could join him and either live with him on or off base? Would it be possible during my SR's A or C school, should it be in San Antonio, TX as well. What is it 29 palms???? Where is it and for how long???
I would really appreciate the answers to those questions, since i do not have much contact with my SR right now and I am very curious.
Thank you and take care. Good luck to you and your SR, Sincerely, Marika.
My HM is graduating A school soon and has been selected to go to Groton Connecticut as Radiation Technician for his C school. There is very little information to be found on this so if anybody has any information, it would be much appreciated.
Hi, son is just starting Corpsman A school in SA and we live in So.Cal. He was home for Christmas and it was wonderful but just hope he will do well and focus on his goals. How far into the program will he know what he is going to do next. I know he wants to FMTB @ Pendleton but do they usually go to C school first?
They choose their orders after the first 5 weeks of school based on where they are in the class. The first 5 weeks are the most difficult as it is the EMT portion of their training so it is really tough to be in the top 10. He will be able to choose orders and if FMTB is available depending on where he is in the order of the class, he can choose it. They do not all go to some kind of C school first. My son chose FMTB in Camp Pendleton (although Lejeune was available) because we live in the Northwest and he ALWAYS wanted to go 'green side'....to work with Marines. He has completed that and is working on a Marine base in California in the hospital there.
My son graduates tomorrow and off to FTMB East Camp Lejune assigned to 2nd Marines he goes !
My son is going through PIR February 1 and is scheduled to head down to San Antonio for A school -a while back we were told the A School might not start until March 1, but I guess we will find out. Couple of questions - we were told he cannot have his cell phone back at RTC the night of graduation that we would have to take the phone to him at the airport but it seems he will probably be flying out of Midway -becuase they use Southwest to go to San Antonio -any insight on that.
Next thing -I had heard that Midway is awful in dealing with parents of sailors wanting to get the passes to sit with him for a while at the airport -did anyone do this and how was your experience? We were told that if he wants his phone, we will have to take it there to him -at Midway. We had also heard that he can't have much of anything with him personal items -including phone for the first couple of weeks... any insight on that?
Your sailor is correct. No cell phone back at RTC after PIR. He has to get it at airport the next day. My son flew to SAT out of Ohare. He was airport by 9am for a &pm flight. There was no problem. Just have your son not go through security till you arrive. The airport personal were very helpful with us. We sat at the airport all day. If Ohare, make sure you find the Garrett's Popcorn!
He is allowed his cell phone but there are times he can't use. He will learn once he arrives in SAT.
My Sailor has been at Ft Sam SAT since March. I am flying down Jan 20 for his graduation from C school. He will be a Certified Surgical Tech and has been assigned to 29 Palms, California.
A school was about 4 months long. Be prepared that he may not "class up" right when he arrives. If not enough students, the Navy waits for the right amount My Hm had to wait about 3 weeks before actually A school began. The dorms they will live in are new. Very nice to what they had at RTC. They have 2 sailors to a room, mini frige, microwave, each gets a desk, and central commons areafor them to gather. They will be assigned watch. They will still continue to do PT and some marching. Nothing like RTC. The base is huge. There are cabs right near their dorm that can take them to Riverwalk about 10 mins away.
Gotta go....hope this helps!
Hi,
We took our Sailors phone and lap top to the Airport, he flew out of Midway and Southwest wasnt difficult at all. Our Sailor went to the counter with us and they gave us the pass with only asking for our ID. He had 12 hours to wait until his flight left so we spent the whole day with him. Hope that helps...
We did the same thing when my son left out of O'Hare. His girlfriend and I got there at 0630 and waited with him until he boarded the plane at 1830. It was sooo worth it!
My son graduated 12-28. He thought he would be at GL a while longer, but he left for midway at 230 am 12-29. He called us (I dont know how) and we went to Midway and brought him his cell phone.
Also -how long do they generally get between the end of A School and their first duty station, C School or whatever? When will he know that information -how long before he finishes A School?
We also saw on his contract and were told that A School is 19 weeks, but someone else on here said 14 -which is correct?
My daughter just received her orders, and she will be going to Guantanamo Bay with the Marines in the medical unit. She graduates on 2/13/2013, and she will hve approx. a month liberty at home before she goes. Bittersweet!
