Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

About the HM Rate, HM Rating Card/navy.mil, Overview from navylive.dodlive.com, and Navy Medicine Almanac 2015 p. 28-29.
PROGRAM DURATION: The actual time that a Sailor physically spends at the HM school in Fort Sam Houston, TX is 96 days. The Sailor is in the seat, learning, Mondays through Fridays for 70 actual instructional days. The course covers emergency medical technician training, nursing skills, knowledge specific to the Navy Hospital Corps, and clinicals.

GRADUATION SCHEDULE: your sailor is your best source for date, time and any changes. Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program on Facebook is NOT an official page, but they do post some photos of graduations.
Read this to find out What is Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB)? (They have a great graduation ceremony for families to attend, too!) Most corpsmen attend FMTB sooner (straight from A School) or later. It does NOT mean that they will necessarily be assigned to a Marine Corps unit.

Females go to FMTB-East only. Otherwise, it's up to the needs of the Navy as to which location a Corpsman is sent to.

Corpsmen serve in a variety of settings. "Blueside" corpsmen serve in hospitals and clinics and on ships. "Greenside" corpsmen are with forward-deployed Marine units and where one can earn the hard-won and highly valued Fleet Marine Force (FMF) qualification. There is nothing like the love that Marines have for their "Doc." Seriously.
Hospital Corpsman Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs) - There are 38 - thirty-eight! - specialties within the HM rating, from Search & Rescue (8401) to Dental Lab Tech/Maxillofacial (8765). Here is a list of HM NECs and C school locations.
Rating/Rate in ascending order:
HR: Hospitalman Recruit (E-1); HA: Hospitalman Apprentice (E-2); HN: Hospitalman (E-3); HM3: Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class (E-4); HM2: Hosp. Corpsman 2nd Class (E-5); HM1: Hospital Corpsman 1st Class (E-6); HMC: Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-7); HMCS: Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-8); HMCM: Master Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-9).

Had a great weekend with my son in SA. He finishes in 3 weeks then coming for a visit. He is uncertain as to what his living arrangements will be in C school as there is not room for them at the moment. He was told that they are looking into contracting with a hotel off base. I was very suprised that they do not have a shuttle to get them around base. They have to take a taxi if they want to go to the grocery store or BX. He said it is a flat $5.00 fee to go within the base. It was rather interesting to see the other branches marching around base. Also the activity in and out of the Ship.

Hi! My son is also in the 150. I met you in Illinois. I did not know that they could come home. I think that they are not sure of their graduation date yet---either August 5th or August 19th is what I have heard. I guess we will find our soon. Keep in touch. I can't wait for my Sailor to come home this weekend. He arrives on Friday (nite) and will be home til Monday. We were going to SA (four of us$$$$) but cancelled our flights after he found out he could leave for the weekend and booked him ($$) instead to come home. This way his elderly grandparents can see him too. He is in Class 150. Any other 150's out there. Does anyone know when Class 150 graduates. Happy 4th of July to everyone.

Z,,, he will need to get to Phase 2 I believe.. that may be a few weeks. He will get info on all his phases once he gets there. I can pretty much say it will be this summer, the phases do not take long to go through, unless they get in trouble and they take it away.

To all: If you're planning to spend the holiday weekend with your sailor in SA, please be aware that you probably won't be seeing ANY fireworks. Most of central Texas is under a burn ban and it's terribly dry and HOT!. Had grass fire just north of Boerne last week due to someone not disposing of their campfire coals properly--1-10 was shut down for a couple of hours. Please take extreme care, stay cool and pray that we get some rain soon!

TXMom- My daughter is with Yenni. They really dont' know when they will start. They just get rumors, and reservists are coming in and that pushes them back. It doesn't make sense to me, but....
She thinks they might start after 4th of July weekend, but I am not betting any money on that.

Well that's good about the paternity leave, but I don't want to be induced, I want the birth to happen as naturally as possible which makes it hard to schedule around. Even though it's only about a 3 hr flight, it would still be hard to do because a) we'd have to hope he could get one and b) it would be PRICEY so last minute!
But then it's KIND of a good thing for him to graduate later because I was worried about possibly having to PCS (though I want to be able to be stationed here in SD if they'll us, but I know I can't count on it) right before the baby comes and having to have the baby somewhere else w/ someone else than who I got the prenatal care with. So maybe between graduating later plus the after A school leave that I hope he gets, it'll work out perfectly? God has perfect timing, I'm just going to keep praying on that!

Tickled Tink - my husband is already down in SA - has been for 2 weeks and says its at least another week before he starts..so its looking like mid-late October for graduation at least for him.. :( I'm also pregnant so I understand how you're feeling - I'm due in 5 weeks though. They will grant paternity leave so your hubby might look into that.. I'll keep my fingers crossed though!

Teach- thank you makes sense. I had just heard of other A schools not allowing them to have the items at all right away so I didn't want to bring it if he wasn't allowed to have me give it to him at the airport. I think I will have to get the backpack at the NEX I am having trouble finding any.
Man is it really taking them that long to class up? It is making me worried because if he started right away he would be done around Mid October. Our baby is due in late November so I really hope he will be done in time! That and I booked a trip out there already because Southwest had a sale $80 each way but I had to book it by the 23rd, so I had to guess when he'd have Phase 3. I hope he does by September 8th!
