OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

About the HM Rate, HM Rating Card/navy.mil, Overview from navylive.dodlive.com, and Navy Medicine Almanac 2015 p. 28-29.
PROGRAM DURATION: The actual time that a Sailor physically spends at the HM school in Fort Sam Houston, TX is 96 days. The Sailor is in the seat, learning, Mondays through Fridays for 70 actual instructional days. The course covers emergency medical technician training, nursing skills, knowledge specific to the Navy Hospital Corps, and clinicals.

GRADUATION SCHEDULE: your sailor is your best source for date, time and any changes. Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program on Facebook is NOT an official page, but they do post some photos of graduations.
Read this to find out What is Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB)? (They have a great graduation ceremony for families to attend, too!) Most corpsmen attend FMTB sooner (straight from A School) or later. It does NOT mean that they will necessarily be assigned to a Marine Corps unit.

Females go to FMTB-East only. Otherwise, it's up to the needs of the Navy as to which location a Corpsman is sent to.

Corpsmen serve in a variety of settings. "Blueside" corpsmen serve in hospitals and clinics and on ships. "Greenside" corpsmen are with forward-deployed Marine units and where one can earn the hard-won and highly valued Fleet Marine Force (FMF) qualification. There is nothing like the love that Marines have for their "Doc." Seriously.
Hospital Corpsman Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs) - There are 38 - thirty-eight! - specialties within the HM rating, from Search & Rescue (8401) to Dental Lab Tech/Maxillofacial (8765). Here is a list of HM NECs and C school locations.
Rating/Rate in ascending order:
HR: Hospitalman Recruit (E-1); HA: Hospitalman Apprentice (E-2); HN: Hospitalman (E-3); HM3: Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class (E-4); HM2: Hosp. Corpsman 2nd Class (E-5); HM1: Hospital Corpsman 1st Class (E-6); HMC: Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-7); HMCS: Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-8); HMCM: Master Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-9).

Hi again girls, I am wondering if any of you have heard about a facility on base where sailors and their families can go to get furniture that has been left behind/donated by other sailors and families? I'm moving to San Antonio near Ft. Sam Houston and my dad who is retired Army said he remembers something like that and to look into it.

Welcome to all you new moms! Because it can take a while to "class up," your future corpsmen may end up in the same class. I'm good friends with a group of corpsman moms I've met on N4M going back seven years, so it's great to see new friendships starting here!

momofnm, Our sons will be a week apart in their training then. My son is very excited. Partially because of the rate that he chose. He followed in his dad's footsteps by joining the Navy. By choosing the Corpsman rating, he's following in mine. I've been a nurse for 16 years. I hope that he will enjoy it.

Trish, your information regarding the WiFi service was quite helpful. I'm not sure what you mean about the "Okinawa Moms Page". But it was past my bedtime also so I didn't notice ;-)

They are allowed to have all kinds of equipment in their rooms. They have tv's, game consoles, laptops, etc. The curriculum is pretty fast-paced and challenging, so I wouldn't recommend too many distractions, but it's not against the rules.

Yep, my sailor and his roommate split their Internet bill of $50 ($25 each). They are allowed to use their computers in their rooms. Thanks for answering my question Trish! My sailor doesn't graduate until the end of March, so I don't think the holidays will apply there. But he is getting to come home for 2 amd a half weeks this month, so I'm not complaining there! Thanks :)

Leslie - The rooms in most barracks can get wi-fi once the service is set up. It costs about $60 a month (I think) and can be set up in a few business days. Some rooms are better than others, but there's also a library if all else fails.

Bronco14 - Because of the holidays, there's a better chance of them getting leave chits approved, but it's a case-by-case basis, depending on when each sailor needs to report into their next duty station. Our son could only have a few days since he was the newest sailor at the clinic he got transferred to, and only got that because most of the senior staff wasn't going back home.
