Monica, you're moving in the wrong direction! It's January and cold up here in the North! Hopefully you'll be able to network and find some dressage barns within driving distance of your new place .. if you get stuck for names/places, check in here again ... the Midatlantic region has many publications such as The Horse of the Delaware Valley, the Midatlantic Thoroughbred, etc. that can help you hook up with a good barn. I know the big barn in Maryland is Hilltop, a fantastic facility, but it's in Colora, probably too far to ride out of.

Hi Monica, welcome aboard. It's good to know that military families can still find a way to make a horse life work! So there's hope for my sailor son, I guess; we sold his TB gelding (our "pony" for the racehorses) when he left home this summer. Where is home for you?

Good Afternoon!
I have a son waiting for BC shipping out July 19th 2011.
I have one horse, my mother has two and we ride jumpers.
It's pretty cool I can combine two things i love in this discussion, my son and my horse :)

Beth, are you from Ocala??? I have an old friend from TX who lives and works there now. I live in the Angelina National Forest in Deep East Texas. Deep is the key word there! :-)

Hi Beth,
Ocala is terrific, I can see my husband and me moving there someday. We buy mares at OBS in the fall. Hey, is it true what I've heard, that there's a pretty large herd of horses in the Ocala Natl Forest that people have just turned loose since they can't afford to feed them anymore? I've heard this from van drivers, a vet, etc, that many horses are just running wild. There's also supposed to be a similar herd in the New Jsrsey Pine Barrens, and in parts of Kentucky..

Hi kk, My son graduated bootcamp on 10/15. What an amazing experience. I hope
you are feeling better. I think Oneida is near Hubbardsville. They have a very nice trail system. We've trailored there several times now from Maryland and spend a few days at a very nice bed and breakfast on a dairy farm. It is the Brookville trail system and very beautiful countryside.

Poor kk! Just remember, we don't bounce as well as we did when we were teenagers. Either that, or the ground has gotten farther away, as measured from the back of a horse!

Beth, my niece has been in the Little Miss Silver Spurs pageant a couple of times ... what a small world, huh?!

Hi Beth, hey my little brother lives in central FL, St. Cloud, he has a little ranch in cattle country/orange grove country. His daughter, 10, rodeos, they barrel race every Fri/Sat/Sun all over the state. At his old place, he used to carry a gun out to the mailbox because of the snakes.... the only snakes I see in PA are little garters under the water tanks, heart attack city when I flip over a tank and there's one... if we had rattlers I'd have been long gone.

kk, I love horses with broken stripes on their faces, and you have TWO of them! It always makes me think of paint that dripped down, very cool looking.
