bsobo- I love Bethesda! It's great being so close to DC and the weather has been lovely so far. Where are you at in MD? When does your husband pick orders? Are you wanting Bethesda?

CDmom- My husband is currently in A school for corpsman as well. He started back in December and seems to enjoy it so far. My husband was also on hold for about 3 weeks once he arrived. Navywife- how do you like Bethesda? We are currently in Md.

Thank you :) we are in Maryland now, and he is working at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. It's been really great so far! Yes, your son will be able to use his phone during the week as long as he's not in class (0630-1700 usually) or in DFAC (cafeteria; they usually go there right after class). It took my hubby awhile to get me his address too so I wouldn't worry too much about that. He is probably just really busy getting oriented and they don't waste time starting with tests either! I hope you hear from him this weekend though! He will be able to go off base in his NWU's and will probably explore San Antonio with buddies this weekend. It's awesome for them to be able to do stuff like that after boot camp!!

Thanks NavyWife,  We haven't heard from our son since Sunday, nor has anyone else.  Are they allowed to use their cell phone during the week?  What is your hubby doing now?  You sure are a handsome couple.

I still don't have Caleb's address.  Hope he hasn't lost his cell phone.  I texted him but no response yet.

Williekeke, sounds like he might get bumped back in A School, since he just came out of boot camp.  He said his order said he started 1-9-12, but I know how things can change.

I'm so glad we adopted him for Christmas and saw him then.  Because we didn't get much time with him at PIR 1-6-12 because of him have the flu.   Maybe we will hear from him this weekend.  I'll feel better once I hear how his first week went and we have an address.

CDMom- Ooh that's a bummer he was sick that weekend :( My hubby graduated in August but I still remember him saying trying to sleep in bootcamp was tough listening to the chorus of coughs everyone had lol. I know it's really hard but trust me--A School goes by SO much faster than boot camp even though its almost twice as long. You can talk and text all the time, even video chat and send care packages. It will be over before you know it!

Thanks NavyWife, He said his start date was 1-9-12 not sure if that means he actually starts than, but those were the orders he received.  He says he has a roomate, so that is good.  He said he slept all night.  Guess it was pretty noisy in boot camp.  He is our only child so I'm going through separation anxiety, even though he isn't ;)  He was sick at PIR so he slept in our hotel all day and we took him to get something to eat before taking him back to the bass.  It was to hectic at the airport to visit much, but he was feeling a lot better after sleeping all day.  He got that flu that was going around.

ashley christine, no, wives do not move with their sailors to A School but you will be on the billet for his first duty station or C school if its 6 months or more.

CDMom, the sailors are living in brand new dorms with a roommate and private bathroom. Last I heard there was quite a bit of overcrowding though and some sailors are being put in Army barracks temporarily. Most likely he will be very comfortable though. Yes, after A School he gets 14 days of leave which is nice for visiting before he goes to his duty station. Also he may not be able to start right on time; many groups who get to SA are put on hold because there's SO many corpsmen they can't all get through. My husband spoke to one corpsman who was waiting two months to be able to even start the 14 week training. Good luck!

Hello, my son leaves for SA, TX after PIR 1-6-12.  He is a Hospital Medical Corpsmen.  Don't know what to expect.  Wondering what kind of living arrangements he will have?  I know he gets time off after fourteen weeks of A School.
