Interior Communications Electrician

Interior Communications Electricians (ICs) install, maintain and repair the equipment needed for interior communications within ships and shore facilities. These communication systems include public address systems, interior telephone systems, alarm systems, engine telegraphs to communicate orders for changes in engine speed from the bridge (ship's command station) to the engine room, certain kinds of ship control and equipment monitoring devices, the ship's gyrocompass, the rudder position indicator, audio-visual equipment for the ship's TV entertainment systems, advanced navigation and various other equipment.

The duties performed by IC's include:

Maintaining and repairing interior communications systems;
Preparing and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and sketches;
Installing and inspecting dry cell and storage batteries;
Recharging wet cell batteries;
Testing interior communications and gyrocompass equipment;
Installing telephone and other communications circuits, boxes, switchboards and bell buzzer systems;
Maintaining plotters and dead reckoning equipment;
Maintaining and operating TV systems;

Working Environment :

People in the IC rating work in many different situations, at sea and ashore. While most of their work is performed indoors, it may be in a clean or dirty environment of a shop-like nature, and it may be in any kind of climate or temperature. IC's usually work closely with others. Most systems IC's work on is of the modern solid state electronic type, making the rating a very technical profession.

A-School Information:

Great Lakes, IL -- 10 weeks

Some Interior Communications Electricians who graduate from "A" school go on to advanced training courses such as gyrocompass and advanced TV maintenance. Others are assigned to duty stations where they can continue learning their rating through on-the-job training.

C-Schools (Advanced Specialized Training):

Shipboard Information, Training, and Entertainment (SITE)

Integrated Launch And Recovery Television Surveillance (ILARTS)

Class Ship Interior Communications Subsystems Technician (FFG-7SS)

Fiber Optic Data Multiplex System Operation and Maintenance (FODMS)

Data Multiplex System (DMS)

Vertical and Short Take-Off and Landing Optical Landing System (VSTOL)

Stabilized Gyrocompass Maintenance (WSN)

Hi ladies.  I hope you are doing good.

Paige, how exciting.  That was a great gift!  Please keep sharing your stories.  You give me a lot to look forward to.

What is a family day cruise?  How often do they happen?

Jana, Jen met Steven a few days ago.

Rachel and I are looking forward to our trip.

Jen is doing good and looking forward to a long weekend.  A bunch of them bought season tickets to Six Flags a few weeks ago and are going to go one day next weekend.

Take care.

what a memory you have Paige.  You should write a book about your adventures.  We are so fortunate to have you as our guide and support thru this amazing journey    Family Cruise day is that something they do before they deploy I can only imagine.  I really should only think about what is going on right now him getting thru ATT and A school my mind start to spin.  But I do enjoy reading and sharing your thoughts with my Husband and Daughter. I think everyone else is getting tired of me  talking about the NAVY BUT TOO BAD IM soo Proud of him

well just got off the phone  with him I sent a box and he called to tell us it came. I sent something special. My dad was disabled army vet. and pasted away almost 31 yrs ago Since Steven left  for BC I wore his medal I asked God to protect him and my Dad to watch over Steven. Thou my dad was wounded he returned home a tank Gunner in WW II Steven told me after PIR he would let me know when he could have it. I often thought when would be an appropriate time to give him this medal. Well never in my wildest dreams did I think he would join the NAVY  now that I have tearing rolling down my face.

The Journey Continues

Faith Hope and Love

Steven passed his test. Good   for the week of the 4th he has a few days off. Has not mentioned any plans I did send him a print of the IL  state park about 10miles away some one on another group  mentioned it. I understand there will not be any thing Special going on at the base due to budget cuts. Im feeling down he wont be with us for the holiday Yes a new Normal.

As for the TAD  my son has worked in the "food industry"  for the past 2yrs cooked cleaned and served. So maybe that will help him ill checkout the video

As always thanks for your support and kind words <3

Hi ladies.

Paige, thank you for those links.  They were funny.  I told Jen about "cranking".  She had not heard about it yet.  Your information invaluable.  I can't wait to hear the other story.

Jana, I hope Steven is doing good.
