HELP I need advice. My son is less than 8 weeks in leaving for b/c, now he tells me that he is having second thought about going in. He was already swon in once at meps and now he says that he is thinking about not going he is really stressed out and getting scared. He is the one who wanted this and even turned down his top pick college with a massive scolarship. I am at a loss what do I say to him? Has anyone else experienced this with their sailor. Now he is saying he will get a job and go to a community college. I am thinking no way you chose this and turned down your scolarship. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated. I am so lost right now. Thanks sor llistening to me rant.

My heart goes out to the families of these sailors. My prayers and thoughts are with them at this time.

How can a family accept this kind of thing? What a waste....what a waste. I am sickened.......I think of how my son has poured his heart and soul into being the best he can be then think of this young man doing the same, only to be gunned down by a nobody trying to make a name for himself. How I wish the media would keep this loser's photo and infor off the news. He does not deserve the "fame"

It is all so sad.

I saw his girlfriend I think it was, interviewed this morning. He pushed her to the floor, and shielded her with his body. He died saving her. Too sad for words

From Defense Media Activity - Navy

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Navy officials confirmed a Sailor was among those killed July 20 when a gunman opened fire in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater.

Petty Officer Third Class John Larimer, 27, of Crystal Lake, Ill., died from injuries sustained in the incident. One other Sailor was treated for injuries and released at the scene. Both Sailors were from a unit that belongs to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. Tenth Fleet, located at Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.

"I am incredibly saddened by the loss of Petty Officer John Larimer--he was an outstanding shipmate," said Cmdr. Jeffrey Jakuboski, Larimer's commanding officer. "A valued member of our Navy team, he will be missed by all who knew him. My heart goes out to John's family, friends and loved ones, as well as to all victims of this horrible tragedy."

Larimer joined the Navy June 16, 2011 and was a cryptologic technician third class. He had been stationed in Aurora since October 2011

I just saw this on facebook and thought the moms going to the Cantigny might like to know.

As a reminder to those of you attending Rockin' for the Troops on Saturday, we have limited parking at Cantigny ($10) and additional free parking with buses running to and from the County Building at 509 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton and the old Navistar Building at 4201 Winfield Road in Warrenville.

Wish I could go but I have other obligations that entire weekend.

@Sanmor, You could use the "Discussion Forum" at the top of the page and start a new topic.

Let me be the first with an idea. On Sept, 29 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, the Villa Park VFW is having their annual "Welcome Home for the Troops" event. Molly's Adopt A Sailor will have a booth. Some moms from out-of-state may even be coming. It would be a great opportunity for a whole bunch of moms to "meet and greet."

Is it possible for a poll or the likes to be set up, the poll would be for an overnight meeting. when in the fall would be best for everyone, place, hotel etc.???

Comment by navym29 on July 18, 2012 at 9:47am

Sorry I missed meeting everyone. I look forward to the next time everyone gets together.
