@Zachs Mom: a couple of things I did before my sons left for Boot camp: I Had Power of attorney for Health care done. (Its simple you can find forms on line), I got a calling card (Make sure you activatre befoire he leaves I forgot to do that. I had a few family pics made(wallet size) so he can have them to look at (Our Dog, His girlfriend, us). We made sure someone else was on his bank account to be able to check it or make out bills if necessary.. I typed out addreses and phone numbers for him to keep in his wallet so when he needed the info he had it( I thought he may be too tired or nervous at the beginnning and forget things) Just some helpful hints for you and others if needed.  Recently I sent a few extra envelopes and stamps with my letter for him to have even though I know they can purchace ose items at RTC.

NM*ll Thanks so much the words of encouragement, my son does not leave until Sept. and I am already not looking foward to it. It has helped though to hear from other moms like you who share their experiences.

Hi Zach's Mom and Welcome........I have a son in Boot camp right now.....the first week was something!!! But since I have been getting letters and a call I am much much better. Letters started in wk 2-3. I've also been trying to be supportive to my son's girlfriend of 3 yrs. I know its hard on her too!  He is doing very well. This site has been very helpful and the PIR grp site is also helpful.

Zach's mom, Welcome! We have all been where you are right now so don't ever hesitate to come here and get support. We help each other get through the rough spots and we all share in our sailor's achievements. There is no such thing as a dumb question, so ask away!!

Hello everyone  I am new to all of this so please be patient with me, I am vewry nervous about it all. My son just signed up in April and will be leaving me in Sept. so in the next few months I am coming to terms with all of it. Any advice is welcome I would really apperciate it. I am looking foward to becoming friends with all of you out there with a love one in the Navy. My son will be third generation going in. I know the basics of what will happen, but it is different when it is your own son/daughter. I know I am rambling I am sorry I do that when I am nervous.
