Congrats Pentwater98. My son is in Groton also. Its nickname is rotten Groton but, my son says it is not really rotten. My Sailor graduates from BESS on Dec 15. He will start A scholol and other training for his field after Chriatmas Break. You should add Groton and submoms to your groups.

So happy for all the families who have new USN Sailors.

God Bless our Sailors

Good Morning my Navy Family... My son had his PIR on Friday what a rollercoaster of emotions this weekend... I cried happy and pride tears and sad tear when we had to say goodbye to him again... Now he is in Groton, CT for Sub School first than A School. He really likes it there so far said the base is old but really nice.. We got to talk and text all day yesterday and I even sent him a good night text... That made my day... I am one very happy Navy mom right now..

WOW!!!  Is all I can say!!! PIR yesterday was AMAZING!!  I am soooo proud of my Sailor son!!!!  Words cannot express the emotions that I have felt over the past 2 days!  I cried during the PIR ceremony!  I rushed down to the drill hall floor as soon as they called Liberty and hugged my sailor so tight!

Sorry to the ladies on this group that were going to arrange a meet and greet with me tonight once I got back to the area.  But this weekend was very exhausting.  We left Houston, Texas at 6 am Thursday (got up at 3 am), arrived in Peoria at 11:45, picked up my mom and drove to Great Lakes.  We checked into our room at the Navy Lodge, went to Sarge's Meet and Greet and then back to the hotel to get some sleep.  Got up at about 3;30 am Friday to get ready and head to PIR so we could get in line and get in and get our seats.  After PIR, we got to spend all day with our Sailor.  Got up at 5:30 am this morning and went to be with him at Midway until he left for A school.  Then we drove back to Peoria.  Had dinner with my sister tonight and staying with my mom and will be flying back to Houston tomorrow at noon. WHEW!!!

But like I said at first, this has been an awesome weekend and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!!!!

A Sailors Christmas ~ Twas the night before Christmas, and he lived in a crowd, In a 40 man berthing, with shipmates so loud. I had come down the exhaust stack with presents to give, And to see just who in this rack did live. I looked all about, and a strange sight I did see, No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stockings were hung, just boots close at hand, On the bulkhead hung pictures of... ......far distant lands. He had medals and badges and awards of all kind, And a sobering thought came into my mind. For this place was different, it was so dark and dreary, I had found the home of a Sailor, this I could see clearly. The Sailor lay sleeping, silent and alone, Curled up in his rack, dreaming of home. The face was so gentle, the berthing in such good order, But not how I pictured a United States Sailor. Was this the hero whom I saw on TV? Defending his country so we all could be free? I realized the families that I've seen this night, Owed their lives to these Sailors who were willing to fight. Soon round the world, the children would play, And grownups would celebrate a new Christmas Day. They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year, Because of the Sailors, like the one lying here. I couldn't help but wonder how many lay alone, On a cold Christmas Eve, on a sea far from home. The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and started to cry. The sailor awakened and I heard a rough voice, "Santa, don't cry, for this life is my choice." "Defend the seas this day, the peace do I keep." The sailor then rolled over and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I kept watch for hours so silent, so still, And we both shivered from the night's cold chill. I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night, This guardian of honor so willing to fight. Then the Sailor rolled over and with a voice soft and pure, Whispered, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas..All is Secure"
