Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by MAMA_C on August 28, 2014 at 10:37am: My son's PIR is tomorrow, he called on Tuesday and mentioned he will have to report at 12 noon to be driven across the street to another building where he will be there from 1-4 hours then later to join us for more celebrations. But he will be there at GL for 6 days before going to Ft. Lee, VA.

I am also from Southern Illinois and my son has been in the Navy for about 2 1/2 years and he loves it so far - we will see what he thinks after he deploys next month!! So proud of your daughter and all young men and women who make the choice to join. Be sure and sent lots of letter and cards to your daughter, she will need all the love and support she can get in the next few weeks - PIR is something you will never forget!

Comment by sandi8 on August 22, 2014 at 9:21pm: AJ's Mom- my son bought his car in CA so that's where it is registered but he maintains an IL license. I know that doesn't answer your question but I wanted to comment that if a license expires while they are out of state they can send a copy of their IL license, military ID and proof of address to the Secretary of State and they will renew it. My son just deployed today and he got the notice about his license the last day or two when he was home so no time to go to the DMV. I'm going to file the paperwork for him. Prayers for sailors on the USS Carl Vinson as they begin this journey! ...and hello to Brittanysmom. Sorry- very Northern IL!

Comment by Labornurse on August 20, 2014 at 2:39pm: My son is stationed in California and we have maintained his Il registration. Illinois is one of the few states that has fewer taxes on vehicles and inspections. Seems to be the easiest route so far.

Comment by MAMA_C on August 20, 2014 at 6:36am: I don't have a real answer to your question AJ's Mom because my son is still in BC. But I do remembered a conversation I had with a friend who was a Marine just recently. He told my son not to purchase his vehicle in the State of VA because you have to pay a property tax each year on their car. So maybe that's something to consider. The expense is easier to maintain in Illinois than another state.
