Had a great garage sale.  Raised money for Molly's Adopt a Sailor and to help pay my way out to Denver for our meeting.  Couldn't believe the amount of people who came by in pouring rain Thurs. nite, but they got some great clothes.  Emptied my closet since losing weight, and some things were only worn twice.  Very little left over to pack up for our church rummage sale next week.  Even the hubby's suits sold--which surprised me.

Did enjoy enjoy clothes shopping last week.  Still a surprise getting used to the new body and smaller size.  Can't wait to see my sailor in a few weeks so he can be surprised.

We spent a lot of time in the basement.  Lambert International Airport in St. Louis is saying 50% of the glass is blown in--watching footage of it now--an airplane was even moved.  Most of the damage was just west of us, but 50 homes in my Madison Co. IL are destroyed.  It will be a while to collect all the stories.  Praying for all families whose homes are gone.  Praising that it sounds like people did retreat to safe places.

That's what the other Foridian said, with hurricaines you can get out of the way.  Spending a week preparing for a hurricaine would make me crazy.  With a tornado it's siren, basement, clean-up, done.  That suits me. Maybe it has less to do with geography than it does with personal philosopy.  My husband thinks if you plan and prepare carefully you can have security.  I believe in a certain amount of preparation, but I also know the world can turn upside down in a heart beat.  (People who lose a parent at a young age tend to think that way.)  When ever possible I like to live in the moment.  I don't like to replay the past or try to predict the future because then you lose the present.  I think that may also have something to do with why this waiting DEP period is hard for me.  I know that in November, when my son goes to boot camp, life will get very different.  So I can't help living in the future to a certain extent.  But I don't want to miss the present.  I want to enjoy this time and not waste it with anticipatory sadness or anxiety.  I'm not sure I explained myself very well.  Does this make sense to anybody?

Jacqueline...I am kind of with you...I watch to see what is goin on as long as possible but just as soon as the sirens go off I am the first one in the basement I grab my dog and purse and I fly down the steps. As a kid I have been through a couple of tornados..nothing that was a direct hit but say the aftermath of homes not too far away and that sticks in my mind.  Now my husband onthe other hand...I think that he would stand on the roof and watch the whole thing and dare it to come to our house! LOL

I was born and raised in central Illinois.  Maybe I'm just too dumb to be scared but storms don't worry me as much as they ought to.  I think they're beautiful.  I always have a fight with myself because I want to watch them and I know it's not a brilliant idea to stand in front of a big window when the trees are whipping around!  Maybe we just get used to our own geographical disaster.  I knew someone from Florida who was terrified of tornados but took hurricaines in stride.  Or maybe I'm just the Wicked Witch of the Mid-West and I'm waiting for my ride! :-)
