Thank you everyone for the well wishes. He graduated and looked so handsome. Now he is going to A at Great Lakes to become a corpseman. I pray every night now for all of our soldiers stationed in battle areas and will add an extra special pray for your son Laura. My other son has enlisted in the Marines. I am not sure how I will handle all of it if the orders come...bootcamp was hard enough. For now I have decided to volunteer once a month at the USO at Navy Pier to just feel like I am helping in some way. I will also participate in Molly's program.

First, sign up for this group if you have not already
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/mollysadoptasailorproject
Then, see if your post office has flat rate shipping boxes--I always get the largest one as military gets $2.00 off the shipping rate and you learn how to pack tightly (up to 70 #, but remember they have to be carried back to their racks/tents/etc.)
Yes, bet they would love hunting, car and driver, etc.

Hi Carol,
Please be sure to let me know what and where to send it too. Can we send hunting mags? I have friends who hunt I know they get hunting and gun magazines so I will ask for as much as I can get. Also I think if a few people are assiged an item each we can send them in bulk to where ever you say is a good idea. Looking forward in helping!

May is for Moms, cindo de Mayo, Military appreciation Month, Memorial day and Molly's Adopt A MARINE!!!

Molly has always held a special place in her heart for Marines as well as Sailors so when she asked if I would be interested in taking on Marines for the month of May, I said sure without hesitation. After all, where there are Sailors there are usually Marines somewhere nearby. I never asked how many. I didn't blink an eye when she told me. I just said. Let's do it!

So, as a Mom of both a Sailor and a Marine it gives me great pleasure to announce that for the month of May we are taking on a group of 290 (yes, you read that right) Marines stationed in Afghanistan. There are 11 females in the bunch and also there are some Sailors mixed in as well.

There's no need to feel intimidated by the large number. There needs are simple. I know first hand that Marines are used to adapting and improvising so they can handle any environment they are delt but it would be so nice to show these guys and gals some support with the items on their wish list. I don't have a theme or anything. Just a list of some basic stuff that sure would make life a little more comfortable. Also, just cards and words of encouragement would be sooooooo much appreciated.

Here's the list:

Beef Jerky

Trail Mix

Protein bars

Summer sausage

Crackers

Slim jims

Oat meal

Foot powder, shower soap

Cup of noodles

Fruit snacks

Cheese peanut butter crackers

Dried fruit

Gum

Sun flower seeds

Foot spray

Baked Beans and air freshner

Dark chocolate

Nacho cheese

Reese’s products

Hunting mags

Interesting things to read

Pumpkin seeds

Baby wipes

Note that they asked for Baked Beans and air freshners. Even though they have a rough and tough reputation, Marines have a great sense of humor, lol.

Given the large number, it might be best to just send boxes of a single item. Most importantly, we can show them our N4M support.

Let's go for a ship by date of APRIL 26th.

Thank all the support and ♥love♥ you have given and continue to show.

Navy Week is coming to St. Louis September 6th to the 12th!

To give you a little background on Navy Weeks, they are set up by the US Navy with the intent to reach out to cities all over the nation and give residents a chance to learn about the Navy. To allow people a good look into the diverse roles available in the Navy, these weeklong celebrations can include:
- Performances by the Navy Leap Frog Parachute Team and the Blue Angels
- Dive demonstrations and dive tanks
- SEAL fitness challenges
- Navy rock and ceremonial bands
- Flight and other interactive simulators
- Appearances by Admirals, divers and sailors
- Community service projects
- Events with local sporting teams
- Much more!

N4M is not sponsoring this event, but if you're interested in coordinating something special with fellow N4M members, here are some Do's and Don'ts to keep in mind :)

DO get involved with Navy Weeks
.
- You are encouraged to participate in Navy Week activities when appropriate.
- If you want to get involved with the Navy coordinators, your group should appoint a "spokesperson" to coordinate with the Navy. (This will alleviate multiple calls on the same topic.). The Navy Week points of contact can be found on www.navyweek.org. Go to the schedule and click on the city that you are interest in. The point of contact for that city's Navy Week will be listed.

DO NOT independently contact the flag officers or VIP participants involved in your town's Navy Week, but do work through the appointed Navy Week points of contact listed on www.navyweek.org

First Laura let me say I will keep your son in my prayers and posative thoughts. Like I said I am new to all this with my son just about to finish A school. What is the Navy doing in Apganistan? I thought the Navy did not go near combat but provided support to those who were. My son called me last night and said his friends in the class ahead of him got their orders and are going to Iraq. He is on edge waiting for his orders and said he was hoping to be going with them. Ha? You want to go with him??? I just don't get it and I thought we were pulling out of Iraq? (sorry if this is choppy I have a migrain but my heart is in it)

Welcome Laura! Come cry on our shoulders ANYTIME! I'm so fortunate our sailor is still stateside, so I can't imagine how I will feel when he goes under sea. Take care.
