Groton Moms:  When my sailor was there to finish welding certification, I learned of a restaurant called either 99 or Ninety Nine.  I learned I could purchase a food gift certificate on-line and send him the link.  Sent him a birthday gift to take out 3 friends.  They had a great meal.  Think the duty van took them.  (Duty van...certain sailors trade time to drive the van since many don't have transportation to places, or to pick up special Officers, etc.)

Welcome Tammy. I don't live far from you. I'm in Peoria. Pat is right about PIR. Bring lots of kleenexes. It is amazing. Glad to have you here. Enjoy your ride.

Welcome Tammy! Be sure you take a lot of Kleenex to PIR. It is something that you will never forget. BTW, my sailor is on a sub. Join the sub moms group, they are wonderful!

Hi Tammy! My son is SECF and has been in Groton a little over a month now. He's going to be STS (sonar) and just had his 2nd test at BESS. He absolutely loves Groton. I talk to him several times a day. They have quite a bit of freedom there and the base is great. They have vans that will take them off base on the weekends for $5 a person, or they can take a cab. My son now can leave during the week and can wear civilian clothes because he's on yellow card. If you have any questions just let me know!

Hello IL mom's,

I'm Tammy, live in Mapleton, IL (10 miles from Peoria) and Proud Navy mom of my son, whom I am told goes by the nickname "Bruce". He is currently at boot camp at Ship 11 Div 408 and graduates on Oct 25.  He will then be shipping out on Oct 26th to his "A" school  in Groton, CT as SECF (Submarine Electronics/Computer Field). I had hoped he would get to come home for  a short time before shipping out, no such luck.

My son tells me that he is doing well and has met some pretty awesome people that he already considers close friends. I have talked with him a few times on the phone and he sounds absolutely great!!  Anxiously awaiting graduation, I miss him terribly and I can't wait to give him a great big hug!!

Wanted to send a big shout out to all the Navy Mom's!!   I absolutely love this site......:)

Carols Kitchen - when are you going to mail the boxes?  I have flip flops to give you also, quite a few actually!  If you are not going to send the boxes until next week, I could probably meet you somewhere Saturday (if you are available) to give them to you.

Hi all, wanted to remind everyone to please rsvp to the luncheon in Bloomington Oct 12 at 1pm Applebees. Time gets away from us all with our busy lives, I understand. Please say yes to go then a week before I will call ahead so they can have a big enough table for us all :-)
