Whitey’s New “Sgt Camo” Ice Cream Going to Iraq for Troops

Moline, IL. Soldiers in Iraq will soon be treated to “Sgt. Camo” Ice Cream, the newest creamy creation from Whitey’s Ice Cream in Moline, IL. Whitey’s has teamed up with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to send the camouflaged colored ice-cream to cool off troops in the deserts of Iraq.

The idea for the sending the ice cream treat to soldiers came after Whitey’s owners, Jeff & Jon Tunberg decided to donate half of the proceeds from sales of “Sgt Camo” to the Military Warriors’ concert/fundraiser on Sept 5th

The fundraiser will be held in LeClaire Park in Davenport and will include a concert by Christian recording artists Michael W. Smith and John Waller as well as appearances by Pastor Matthew Hagee. Wounded warriors, including Jeremiah Workman (navy cross & purple heart recipient) will be recognized at the event and active military will be admitted free.

“After we decided to help sponsor “A Night to Honor Our Heroes” with ice-cream sale proceeds, we thought, ‘why not bless our troops in Iraq with Sgt. Camo Ice Cream.’ Lt Gen Leroy Sisco, founder of Military Warriors, made the necessary contacts and we’re working out the details to ship it to the troops. We are honored to do this and hope it reminds them of home, especially those from the Quad Cities area who love Whitey’s Ice Cream.”

Kathryn Bohn, concert organizer & promoter first conceived the idea to produce “A Night to Honor Our Heroes” in 2004 after seeing President Bush in LeClaire Park and writing a letter requesting his help to make it happen. Over the years, Bohn has produced other Christian concerts for pro-life organizations and The Salvation Army, but never gave up her heart’s desire to produce an event to honor God, Country and the military warriors.

In 2008, Bohn saw General Sisco on the John Hagee show and contacted him about producing the fundraiser for Military Warriors. The event is made possible by financial sponsors and ticket sales.

Tickets are $15.00 and are on sale at Family Christian Stores in Davenport, Ia and Moline, IL. National Guard and Reserves have a reduced ticket price and children 12-years and younger are admitted “free.”

Proceeds will go to help the Military Warriors foundation provide educational scholarships, recreational retreats & programs, family mentoring programs, financial planning and counseling.

Thank you - Shark enjoyed her fresh cherries! And she does love hugs. Family enjoyed the cake. I keep wondering - if you could only place one shoe in a box - did the boxes arrive on time - so he could wear both shoes? And if he is that tall - and going to based at a place that gets cold for wintoer - mail those long johns now! At the post offiice, we pick up the flat rate boxes - free. They only cost 13.00. And we stuff them. What cost us - we do insure them. Oh - Congrats snoozymom! Are you going to the MEPS to see him sworn in? We did and I cried through the entire ceremony. The Commander who sore my son in, welcomed us and was so glad to have parents there. He even told us to stand in front of him - if we needed to get the best picture of our son, I mailed tht picture to relatives - ALex sthanding there - at attention - right hand up and saying the oath. No words to described that momoent. But I still see it clearnly when I think of it. Hope you can be ther. Need to ice the cake - take care - sleep well and sweetest of dreams. TlYnn

Off to crank duty - I remembered that today is Shark's 25th birthday. Yes- I am talking about the turtle. So I am making a cake - we will eat the cake - she will have a bowl of cherries. Funny thing - when she turned 21 my sailor (Alex) got her a big bottle of beer. She was not happy - he drank it. Talk soon everyone TLynn

Gwen, I have a friend whose business is supplying household/nursing help. I have left a voice mail for her to call me. If her company does not go that far north, maybe she can give me a reference to send to you. Will let you know ASAP. Pat

Got it! And I emailed it to many relatives and friends. And when it comes my way again - I keep passing it along. Keep us posted on your son condition and what you are doing. If I can think of other ideas I will pass them to you. Sorry about teh inner ear part. being infected. One question - can your son get his medical records showing when this happened and what care he got/? That would be great to have. Take care TLynn

Keep venting until you get it all out. We are here for you! You want to get some more attention to this situation? CAll your Congressman - Senator - and ask them to give you teh phone number to contact in the Navy. Then put it in writing and send to all of them adn the local news meida. I know I dod not sound nice - but a kick in the ------- works. Please - can you share more details on the ear? Was the infection in the eardrum area only that caused it to burst or did the infection get into the inner area too? It does make a difference. My right ear was badly infected when I was 7 - the infectionw was so bad it burst the ear drum in half. NOthing was done - except to leave it to heal togeher on it's own. Have a scare down teh middle of it adn hearing is 5 to 10 percent less thatn the left one. Also, with allergies - both ears ring - but the right one has always had a louder pitch. Does your son's ears have a continueous ring too? Share - Vent all wish - we care TLynn

Both parents were teachers - uncle was a history teacher and principal of Eldorado High School - aunt was the librian - number of other cousins - you guessed it teachers. Everytime we went south to visit - father would tell me about Mt. Vernon and Benton and the coal mines - Shady Oaks - the Old Slave House in Equailty, IL. - etc. Not so much historian as had to hear about family and the happenings around the area. And I still get lost down there! Signing off for tonight - I cut my index finger and it is starting to hurt. Guess I am gossiping to much with it. Sweet Dreams Y'al :) TLynn
