Welcome Mary, We are from Carol Stream. Practically neighbors!!! I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have. Really great moms here and you will make a lot of friends. It is really quite remarkable. So feel free to ask questions, just vent, or come here when you need a shoulder or a pat on the back! Pat

Pam--the Dixon Mom is great! You will love chatting with her--make sure and do so.
Wow--your sailor is already in C school. What is an MT (ours is a fnMM.) He plans to go subs, too.

Verna--also join the Illinois N4M and post there (I am in S.C. visiting our sailor this weekend.) There may also be a moms group for Chicago area Moms you could join and post your needs too.
Otherwise, see if your church leader can direct you to a "sister" church. They may be able to check with their congregation and help you.
Remember, if your sailor is still a recruit, they cannot have visitors. However, if they are in A school there, then they would have some weekend liberty.
Best wishes and good luck.

We get his girls a couple times a month, so they were here last weekend. The six year old came out of their bedroom Saturday morning carrying two teddy bears her Daddy had given her--one from Afghanistan and one from Great Lakes. Then she cuddled up with them and her "daddy blanket" to watch cartoons. The blanket is a fleece one--yardage from Walmart with ships and Navy logos. She was so cute! I have no pictures of him anywhere in the house--except their room. She went through the house and took every picture of him to put around the girls' room! They adore him and it's mutual!

Ruth--loved hearing about the sheets your sailor left for his little girls. My prayers are with your family.

My sailor left Thursday after two wonderful weeks of leave with us. He's in Kuwait awaiting a flight back to Afghanistan. It was the best time ever! His little girls are with us this weekend and everything brings up questions about Daddy. They understand he's fighting bad guys, so they seem to understand why he's not here now. He's the best--he left sheets he's used there and told me to put them on the girls' beds so they'll know he's close to them.

Glad to hear PIR is still just the most amazing ceremony. I never tire of hearing about it.
A school is great-- you will love hearing from your sailor more often.

I just posted more info about the Residence Inn in the Boot Camp discussion. Maybe the price difference is weekend vs. weekday rates. I don't know, but it's a great hotel for the money.

I visited Great Lakes this weekend and actually got to go shopping at the NEX. To do that, you have to have your sailor with you for his ID and bring cash to cover what you want. I got a new Navy mom car sticker, thermo cup, and the girls got little sailor hats and teddy bears. In case you ever need a hotel, the Residence Inn at Lake Forest is really nice. Andy got a suite (regular $189) for $79 a night; the regular room rate for AAA is $90. There's little difference in the two rooms except that the suite has a wall and door separating the bedroom from living room area with a sofa bed. There's a full kitchen with both, but a huge full breakfast every morning. The little girls turned into Ariels with hours in the pool.

Just learned that at Scott Air Force Base there will be a huge air show this weekend from 9-5 on Sat. & Sun. Take sunscreen.
