Maggie: Can't wait to meet Miss Mary!

ND Mark: I'm so bummed not to have been there on Sat. night, but am having a great time seeing the "rellies" (British term) here in Texas. You realize this means you'll have to plan another Gathering some time, so I have a reason to see some more of Indiana!

Wow, what a birthday memory! I've heard that when they do that 'steel beach' thing, the mess crew also grills out for dinner. A good way to spend a special day! k.

Cheryl,
The dinner is at Tony's Place Pizza on June 27 (a week from this Saturday). If you'll click on 'June 27' on the Event Calendar in the right-hand column, you can find all the details under "Indiana Moms Pizza Party." If you need more help, let us know. Hugs! k.

I had a fun time too, Pat! We just need to get you closer to us, somehow!

Our "Westies" dinner tonight had 4 Indiana Moms and 1 guest... new mom, Maggie Daniel got to join us for the first time; she's got a NROTC daughter, Mary. The other three of us all have "Andrews!" So, Rhonda's kid passed the Physics portion of Nuke School (Hoo-rah!); Pat's kid won't re-up unless he gets some sea time (don't blame him); and my kid wants a girlfriend (sheesh)!

Hope everyone makes plans for attending the Valparaiso gathering on June 27! Hugs, k.

Oh, Miss 08, you lucky soul! Wish we submarine moms had access to that technology... but until they figure out how to send laptop signals through two steel hulls and a few hundred feet of water, I guess we'll have to settle for the short, occasional email!

Tell your Sailor that all us "Hoosier Folk" wish him well and are keeping him in our special thoughts. Hugs! k.

Anne's Mom is just the latest in several new members! I've been asked by Janet (Matt's Mom) to help moderate this group, and with the new guidelines changes made by N4M Admin, I thought it might be a good time to remind ALL of us about OPSEC (Operations Security) guidelines. I can't remember a single time this has been a problem here in "Indiana," but it's good to hear (and share with others) the rules again.

The old, but still relevant slogan of OPSEC is "Loose Lips Sink Ships!" Basically, we don't want to say or do anything that bad guys might use to hurt our Sailors. The following should NOT be shared either by posting or sending via a Group message:

Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter. Before you scan an article that contains your Sailor’s last name, black it out first. If you provide the link to an online Navy or news article, do not publicly identify the mentioned Sailor as your son or daughter.

No Sailor addresses, emails, or other contact information. The exception to this rule is FPO addresses.

Specific dates, times, and locations regarding current or future deployments and ship movements. Do not post dates more specific than by month. Do not post specific ports of call, deployment bases, or future destinations.

Details regarding missions, including: training, equipment, and current or future operations. (Boot Camp is ok).

Names or numbers of the Recruit Training Command staff.

• Ways to "get around the system." The Navy sees it as a breach of security when you share things like how to bend the rules. We don’t want to jeopardize the safety of our Sailors. There's a chain of command and procedures in place for EVERYTHING. When we circumvent those, it's our Sailors who suffer the consequences.

Remember that if WE can read this, so can the bad guys! Don't put anything out here that you wouldn't want Al Quaeda to see. Thanks! k.

Hi, Anne's Mom and welcome to Indiana Moms! We've all been where you are right now... so proud of our Sailor's commitment, yet ready to lock him/her in a closet before the recruiters come! Boot camp will be hard, but the best way through it is to voice all your stress right here... we'll hold your hand and tell you our stories, letting you know you're not alone.

Ahead of boot camp, I would advise Anne to be physically prepared. Work on running two miles a day, doing the sit-ups, push-ups, etc. Her recruiter should be telling her how to prepare for this. Secondly, boot camp is all about conforming to the "Navy Way." Everything the RDCs (Recruit Drill Commanders) tell Anne to do has a reason behind it, even if not readily apparent.

Please know that there's a state-wide gathering planned on Saturday, June 27, in Valparaiso. We'd love to see you there! For all the details, click on this date on the Event Calendar in the right-hand column. Welcome aboard! k.

Oh, Dawn... I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope his passing was a peaceful one, and that his services went smoothly, providing your family with some peace and healing. We're all fine here. Hope to see you on the 15th, k.
