Sandy, that's perfectly OK. We've all been there, so when you're at your worst, come here and let it all out. Personally, I've soaked enough cuptowels to dry off a Boeing 747!! I'd suggest trying to hold it together when you're in front of the younger siblings. They gather their strength from you.
Put up a countdown calendar until the family gets to see brother - they can put stickers on it as the days go by, focusing on the happy "return" and not the sad "departure." Put them in charge of "Make the Sailor Happy!" Ya'll can have fun thinking of nice things to do. Have them take photos of the dog, them riding their bikes or playing ball, their school classes waving "Hi!" to the sailor, just whatever! You can print those pix onto plain sheets of paper for his next letter.
When your sailor calls, tell him that while you all miss him terribly, you're doing fine and that he doesn't need to worry about the folks back home. Just concentrate on doing his best at bootcamp. Tell him you love him no matter what happens, but that you know he can do it and be a great sailor!
Then, when you're by yourself (in the shower is a really good place), you can sob all you want to. We'll hand you tissues and pat your back! Many hugs, k.
The last few days have been hard. I started laundry today, my son had some clothes in the hamper, just fell apart. It also has been hard on my two youngest children. His younger brother just cried, wrote him a note saying how he was going to miss him and wanted to be just like him. Drew a picture of a face frowning with tears. It just broke my heart
Thank you, I am very thankful I get to see the big event and hoping the weeks will fly by. Will miss him so much
Sunshine, oh, to get to be there for that! You're blessed already! Tell him we're all pulling for him. The weeks will fly and you'll be popping proud at PIR. God Bless
I drive my son to his recuriter tomorrow for check in, then Wednesday morning will see him get sworn in. The "water works" has been flowing for the past week and only gets worse. Very proud but will miss him so much!
I am on the south side of Indy, around the Southport area.

Matt's Mom, I'm on the far west side..Avon Where are you? I've officially survived 1 wk w/him gone and no contact! LOL You can do it!!
