Hi Indiana moms! My daughter leaves for bc in one week from today. She and I are both getting nervous....She has been really excited to get started up until now but is now getting nervous. I know she will be fine but she is making me a nervous wreck!!!
This holiday season, keep a "candle in the window" to show you're thinking of military personnel who won't be with loved ones, and to keep them in the minds of those who live around us.
"Putting a candle in a window is an ancient practice. Throughout history, fire has meant warmth, security, food, and a barrier against the unsafe in an untamed wilderness. The glow from the family hearth has come to represent these very feelings.
In most cultures, a candle in the window was used to signal a family's loyalty to a loved one away traveling. To the traveler, it was a signal flare during bad weather and indicated someone was awake, awaiting their return. It also began to show a ready welcome of any traveler needing warmth and safety." **
Let our service people know that your home is their home, and someone there is thinking of them and waiting for their return.
(Please use an electric or battery-operated light, to prevent fires. **History text copied from www.americanfamilytraditions.com)
Thank you to Pat who invited me to join Indiana Moms. I had no idea there was such a group. I am looking forward to being a part of this site and hope to learn how best to serve my son, and his endeavors in this path!
Been there with the divorce thing too. just rem'd. the same yr. he went in the Navy, I went to my 40th HS reunion and met an old friend--and married him. See? all kinds of possibilities. Keep the faith. Love E'ville!! went to college there.
Sharri, stay connected to this site; surf the net for info. It will be a great growing experience for him and the family. This is my son's 8th yr. after not quite finishing college.... it's been all good. I'm in Anderson.
I am in Evansville. My son just joined this week. He is 18 but is still in high school, so he won't leave until summer. I am really nervouse because I know nothing about military life and Ben had never talked about military until about a month ago. It will take some time for me to get used to the idea. I am anxious to learn more.
Since no one has responded to this month's Indy Moms' Dinner, it's been cancelled. Sorry for the late notice, but was hoping to have a "last minute" person.
Let me know if you're interested in scheduling one for next month... k.
