Matt's mom Sandy,
If he doesn't leave until February, you may feel alittle overwhelmed with the RTC breakdown right now. You should be sure to join the group "Leaving for bootcamp in February" There won't be a lot of activity on it right now, but it will increase nearer to fall and the holidays. It's a lot of 'know before you go' info and it will be moms travelling the same emotional timeline you are on as well as veteran moms. Be sure to read the discussions above their board. Great info.

My son does not leave for BC until February. It seems so far away, but down deep I know it will go by quickly. Trying to spend as much time with him. His younger brother and sister are also doing the same, amazing how their relationship has changed since he announced he was enlisting. I don't know how I will be the closer I get to Feburary 18th. I find myself in tears just talking about it. I am glad to be on this site for support. Thanks for the breakdown site, this will give me some idea of what phase he will be in. Planning to write everyday, I better by a roll of postage stamps!
New moms,
I hope you have also joined the bootcamp group. A lot of support and your PIR/division groups are spun off of there.
The first 3 weeks of bc are the worst because of the lack of communication. I cried every day. Oh my gosh, I even broke down in the grocery store, and I don't even know what triggered it! Once you get that first real, handwritten letter, which arrives Wednesday or Thursday after the 3rd Sunday, you will start to feel better. Write every day! It is as cathartic for you as it is necessary for your SR. They can only write on Sundays, but can receive mail Monday through Friday. Make sure their name is called out at 8pm every night! :)
The not knowing what they are doing and going through is probably the catalyst for much of the grief we feel. [Of course, we miss seeing, touching, and talking to them, too!] I will list a link to a day-by-day break down of bootcamp below. Following along helped me emensely. I kept a copy at work, one in my purse, and one on the kitchen counter! LOL Learn as much as you can so you don't spend your precious phone call time asking "What's that?" and your kids will be proud to see you are becoming a Navy Mom! :)))
Day by day breakdown of basic training at GL http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433
NOTE: Copy and paste into Word, then highlight and change the font color to black, then print. It is approx 6 pages long.
Also, if your SR's are in a "push group" the days may be a bit off, but what they need to get accomplished is the same, just in a quicker amount of time.
Welcome aboard navy moms. Hooyah!
proudnavymama - mine son shipped yesterday to GL too. And I totally understand how you feel! I really thought the call would help, but after hanging up is when I really broke down. So super proud of him, but as you said, serious mixed emotions. Definitely think it's going to take a lil time to get used to him not being around or used to how quiet the house is...lol. Good luck! Btw- where are you from in Indiana?
My son left for GL yesterday with 10 other SR, no amount of time can prepare you for that moment! Nor was I prepared for him to be somewhat emotional! We got our phone call & now just sit & wait on the box, the next phone call, any word we can hang on to that let's us know he's where he needs to be! Such a tough mix of emotions. I really enjoy hearing what everyone else is going through, misery loves company!! lol But I do want to turn that misery into happiness, it's just going to take a couple weeks to get used to...
Well just found out my son will be put on hold at GL, I am bummed out!!!! Was really looking forward on seeing him. He is waiting on a interview but the personal that is suppose to do this is on liberty and don't know when they will be back. I hope this doesn't mess up his orders. Totally disappointed .
My son is in San Antonio for A school and graduates this next Friday 8/10. He got orders to report to his next duty station in Italy. He says he will be coming home for 2 weeks leave before heading to Italy. He is so excited! He has always wanted to see Italy. Mom is not quite so excited. I guess I should save my money for a vacation to see him there. :-)
DebbieD: Does your son like being a OS? That is what my son is going to be.I am sure it is going to be hard I won't see my son for awhile when he goes.He will be going to Hawaii, but I hope I can Sype. Have a Great Time when you are with your son ( I am sure you will).
