Hi! My son is about 3 weeks into boot camp- got the first letter from him today which was great. I've been writing every other day, and my son who usually isn't too emotional about things said he was so happy to hear about just the mundane things going on at home. I am looking forward to him finishing!

Welcome r11210!

My son just returned from a 7 mo. deployment on the USS George H.W.Bush. He has been in since '07. I didn't even realize that we Could send letters, cards, etc to bootcamp until I read it on NavyMoms less than a year ago. My son told me absolutely NOT to send him anything during BC. That they would read it etc.  I asked him after I had showered him with pkgs and letters all the way thru deployment why he had told me not to send anything while he was at BC. He told me that he knew if he could get thru BC without hearing from anyone that it would make the rest easier. Didn't know if I should have smacked him or hugged him. He loves the Navy. Indiana Moms are great. If you live close attend the monthly moms group that meets around Avon or there is a hopefully going to be another Lake Party this year in northern IN!

Robin. My son hasn't been in quite a year yet but while he was in boot I sent letters or cards about every day. They look forward to mail. Send letters of encouragement Let him know how proud your are. Encourage family members to do the same. Also no need to send anything with him because they will send everything back including underwear!!!! During boot letters will be your communication and they look forward to mail. Be strong for him as I am sure he is just as anxious as you are. I still cry inside everyday for my son and miss him dearly. I haven't seen him since July; he went on deployment for about seven months. I am so proud of him and all our military for what they do and let him know that in each email I send. Just keep the letters going to him during boot. Good luck to you and I thank your son for serving.

Today my fellow Americans made me proud. My daughters flying all day in uniform and was met with so much love and support it made her tear up when she called me.
