Hi Sharri,

Sorry he's homesick - it's awful when they are away.  One suggestion would be to send 30 envelopes, with a different picture/message/joke/etc so he opens one each day - kind of advent calendar-ish.  This gives him a focus each day with the end result of being home.  Just a thought.  Will keep you both in our prayers.

Thanks Rock.  I am sure my son got homesick in Boot Camp, but because he couldn't call or text, I wasn't aware of it.  That is probably a good thing.  Sometimes I stop and remember that he is only 19.  That really isn't that old.  I sent beef jerky in his first box.  He said that was his favorite.  I will brave the Indiana cold this weekend and find some things for another box.  I am willing to bet he won't care much what is inside, but will just be happy to get something.  I have been happy to be able to say, "I get to see my baby next month."  In another week I will be able to amend that statement to say, "I get to see my baby later THIS month!"

My son stood his last "watch" today at the recruiter's office and scheduled his 7 day meeting.  Things are moving fast!

Shari, I'm so sorry to hear your son is homesick. Hopefully it will get better for him. My son was homesick during boot camp but has done well in A and C school and is happy now. I send my son snacks and beef sticks. Maybe you can stick some valentine goodies in one......it'll be here before you know it. For Halloween I sent a skeleton and some fun stuff he could hang on the barracks door. He said they had a contest for the door decorations and the guys tried but the girls beat them hands down.

Rock 49, My son is a CS (Culinary Specialist) and is at Ft. Lee, Virginia.  My heart hurts right now because as of his text last night he is very homesick!  Good part is that he will be done with school in about 30 days and will get to come home for a bit.  My head tells me that he will be fine, but my heart aches for him.  Wish I could give him a hug.  Does anyone have any suggestions for care packages?  I sent one last week with snacks, a puzzle book, and toys (yo-yo, paddle ball, silly putty, etc.)  He loved it! But I would like to do something different this week.

Sharri, what part of Virginia is your son in for A school?

Wow!  Sara Mom of Clayton is from Salem and so are you Mammadog.  I'm in Orleans.  My son's PIR was 8/16 and he's in Dam Neck, VA for Intelligence Specialist.  He completed A school and is now in C School and received his orders for Japan when he's finished with school.

Hi mamadog, and hoosiermamma, Welcome to the USN!  I'm in Anderson.

We love to come to so Indiana to visit--so much to do. Best advise from here is that the Depr's be the best swimmers they can be. My son's in his 10th year. It's been a great ride. He's happy he stayed in.

Hello, I am new to this. I live in Salem In. My daughter leaves in June 3rd for BC. She is in aviation, I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

I am in Muncie and my son leaves February 4th for BC.  I remember our first meeting with recruiter almost a year ago.  Very exciting couple of weeks coming up!
