I missed very phone call from my daughter but the last one. She was very homesick at first and said that it was probably a good thing that she didn't get to talk to us because not getting to hear our voices only made her stronger. I did write to her everyday though and she was grateful for that.
My son left June 19th and his PIR is 8/16. The not hearing from them is really hard and my son was soooo miserable and down the first time I heard from him that it frightened me. He got to make his second phone call yesterday and he sounded good so I don't have to worry so much. The first few weeks are really rough on them so tell your daughter to hang in there that it will get better and just keep sending her mail to encourage her and get her through it. Every letter I sent I included some blonde jokes and military jokes and my son told me yesterday he really enjoyed them. I also clip articles out of magazines and send to him and he's enjoyed those too. My son is my only child and it's been really hard but things are looking up now. Best wishes to your and your daughter!
Sharri - I am in the Evansville area also - I read your comments about "too many letters" with a smile - my son read his letters from me (I wrote every day) to the others - I tried not to be sentimental - just the ordinary stuff that happens in So. IN - the dog chasing squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc. His sisters softball games were among the favs - he will be deployed soon, so the letter writing will start again . . it will be so hard not to be able to speak with him on the phone.
Hello everyone. I'm still trying to figure out this website so bare with me lol. I'm from Portage IN, it is Northern IN and borders Lake Michigan. My 18yr old leaves for Boot Camp on Aug 7th. He is my oldest of 3.
He has been going to the pool daily and I got him a good bike for graduation, so he is working on it! Thanks.
