Sara, I am in Southern Indiana as well.  I am in Evansville.  I have two kids, both boys.  My oldest just moved out into his first apartment and my youngest just finished Boot Camp.  He is 19 and just transferred to Virginia for A school.  It has been a long process, and very difficult at times.  Stay with the Navy Moms sites and be sure to join the one for your boot camp group when it get established.  These sites are invaluable.  If I can help at any time, just let me know.  There is lots of information and it can be a bit overwhelming but it is all doable.  I miss my son tremendously, but am so proud of him for what he is doing with his life.  When you see the pride in their faces and hear the excitement and pride in their voices it makes it all a bit easier to handle.  Hang in there.  Sharri

Sara,

Yes, you will eventually be joining Nuke moms as well as the group for his schools and ultimate duty station.  Right now, it may be a bit overwhelming to join a group that far along into your boy's journey.  :)  Just keeping up with the basic Navy jargon and acronyms will keep you busy in the beginning, plus the moral support as you switch from being mom to navy mom.  We veteran moms know how difficult, or at least emotional that shift can be.  We're here for you!

Thanks for the information, ReneeBC.  My son is going into the nuclear field; does that make me a nuclear mom?  I will check out the other groups that you told me about.  Again, thanks for the tips.

Welcome, Sara.

You are very southern Indiana.   I'm south-central Indiana, in Martinsville, and I'm an aircrew mom. :)

Be sure to also join the Deppers group and the Bootcamp group.  They are amazing groups for moms learning to be Navy moms and helping you on this journey.  All three groups are very supportive.

What is your son's designation?

R.

Hi everyone!  I just joined this group this evening.  I live in a small town in Southern Indiana, Salem.  My son will be leaving for boot camp in April 2014.  He is our only child, so it will be hard to see him go.  I am very thankful for this group.

ProudMommaTori, my son gave up the carbs, starches and anything high in sodium. No bread, no soda and lots of water. Every other day he rode his bike 20 miles and ran on the days in between with lots of push up and sit ups every day. Those last few pounds are hard to get rid of.

A shout-out to PMTori! can you hear me? I'm 9 miles south of you! My suggestion to a mom from Evansville was to have her son do lots of pool work before BC. Are you a member of the Y or any connections to AU?  Other suggestion: cut the carbs.

Hi to all the Indiana Moms. I just joined your group this morning from Alexandria. My Son will be going to Boot Camp two days before Thanksgiving. I'm proud but nervous at the same time. He's going into the Nuclear program and I know he will get a great education. He's working very hard to lose his last 10 lbs before he leaves. Any suggestions?
