Hi!  I hope you all don't mind me joining your group.  My family and I are in a bit of a different situation than a lot of people, I think.  We aren't parents of a Sailor stationed in Japan, we're a Navy family (my husband is still Active Duty Navy) stationed in Japan with a Sailor son back in the States....  We're stationed in Misawa.

My son left for Japan this evening - has a stop in Chicago, then a 13 hour layover in Seattle before his 10+hr flight. I hope the USO can take of him in Seattle.  Bittersweet - I'm happy for him to begin his new venture, but sad for me because I miss his already.  I think I will feel better when I know he lands in Tokyo and gets to Yokosuka. I do have to admit that him leaving for bootcamp was alot worse.

Thanks Anti M I didn't know that, very interesting and way cool.

LOL at the bearded swallow, Navymom!  They get two swallows, one because a swallow means the ship is near land, and one because the swallows go away but always come back; or one for 5,000 miles at sea, and one for 10,000.  When the sailor retires the two birds are joined together by a blue ribbon, signifying he is home from the sea forever.  We told my nephew he is behind on his birds!

Well ladies...just got back from the Airport, the night before and the trip there seem to get easier BUT those last 30 mins or so still suck just as bad as the first time he left !

With that said....I have flight #'s and my computer and phone....Let the stalking, umm tracking begin :)

He left out of Jacksonville and landed in Detroit the same time we got home (22 mins ago) , takes off again @ 3:53.....

Have a great day everyone !

Anti M my older sailor has the 2 swallows on his chest. He had them done when he was in Turkey. As he wanted a tattoo from another country. Well the guy did a good job but since he didn't speak any english he thought my son wanted a male and female swallow since he wanted 2 of them. So one of them has a beard. LOL

Wonderful news TLynn.  Another wedding?  You hardly have time to breath.

Welcome cookieb.  What a perfect day to travel to Japan.  Those on leave will be traveling back.  Your son will hopefully meet someone traveling back.  What cities does he fly through?

We had planned a simple Christmas with our two sons that are here.  We went to the movies and planned to bar bq steaks.  We went to a movie theater that served drinks and food.  We came home full and decided to bbq tomorrow.  Sailor missed Christmas dinner also.  He didn't know that it was served at 3:00.  Poor thing, he said he would wait until breakfast to eat.  He was most disappointed that his aunts, uncles and cousins didn't call.  I contacted my sister and told her to email him a time that they would call.  He had to be outside to get the call.  They didn't bother.  Grrrrr.

I was sick all weekend.  Getting worse each day.  This is the first year that I have been done early and the first year that I did not plan a big dinner.  I must have esp.  I could sure use a healing spell TLynn.
