Anti M - my girlfriend's daughter is a Lieutenant, Physical Therapist at the Walter Reed National.  She just explained to me the other day that the original hospital is closed and they have recently integrated with the Bethesda Naval Hosp. which was newly named the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, now the largest military hosp. in the world.

Maybe Lisa will be his therapist when the time comes.  I will pass this information on to my girlfriend.

Take care all!

HI

NO words yet from Mar. So give a guess when that sweet baby arrives.

Anti M - I hope your Dr. Bill does visit Nick - how warming to the heart.

Val - 12 days !!!!!! count down to hug!

thanks for updates Blonde will send a message to be added to the wreath.  Very touching idea.

Maggs - what's Angel up too?  I found Shark this morning resting - with limbs spread eagle out and head resting on her hot rock. But she had moved her stuff blue turtle to be by the hot rock too and facing her.  Cuddling mood I guess.  Plan on taking the turtle with her to see Santa.

Does Angle see Santa?

Do any of you take your pets to see Santa?  Just wondering.

Hi Tee and welcome here.

Don't worry davesmom - things will work out and someone here can answer your question

hugs all

can somebody please explain to me what a ombudsman is/does.  My son just arrived in Yokosuka.  Is there some kind of list that I need to be put on, or does the ombudsman send out info?  Thanks!

Hello, I'm new to this group and I have a question.  This is my son's first deployment and he's in Okinawa (spelling?)  Do they get the packages we send? I'm so hesitant to send anything because his mail has gone missing many times.  I'm not too concerned with him getting something on time for Christmas, just that he gets it eventually.

T-Lynn, I'm no good at pools.  I just know the baby comes when the baby comes!

I feel posting about Nick is fine, although maybe put them in italics, because sometimes I'm reading and then bam! It is about Nick and my mind didn't make the jump.  I am glad he is doing well, although he is on a very tough and uneven path!

If no one minds, I have a little rambling story:  My cousin is a consulting/teaching surgeon at Walter Reed (didn't they close that? Move to a different medical center?) I am not close to him, but I know he visits the wounded warriors.  I'd like to think he'll be seeing Nick soon and make him smile. Cousin Bill is a terrific guy (Dr. William DeVries, oldest doctor to go active duty and complete Army office training).  He was a cardiac surgeon, but no loner does surgery himself... too stressful on his heart.

For those desiring to send cards/messages to the family of the Petty Officer who died on Nov 23 on the USS Essex

The following is the email response I rec'd from the Ombudsman...as you read, the family has asked for privacy and they had to ask permission to do this......Hi Marianne,

The FRG is taking a collection of messages/cards to create a "condolence/support flower tree" of sorts.  Each card/message will be posted on a stick and arranged like a bouquet of flowers might look (we may have to adjust it to a wreath).  They will be displayed at the viewing.
I think it would be easier if you collected the messages and emailed them to me since the influx of mail may very well cause a delay in receiving them.   I'll hand write each message on a small card to put on the wreath.  The family is desiring privacy and we needed permission just to do this for them.

Blondie, sure glad you are doing better. A good cry is better than chocolate and cognac except for all three together. Lol. I wish that my dad could be there encouraging Nick along. My dod only lost 45 units of blood and only lost one leg but has shrapmill from head to toe....still. Doctors are still amazed he made it and has lives so long and healthy. He is 88 now. He had shrapmill go through his spine, colon kidne
ys, arteries going to legs, and everything else one has in his torso when his buddya were carrying him and one of the guys carrying him stepped on a mine. The drs said that he should have been dead or al least paralysed and the the hands of God must have guided the shrapmil
in. He and his platoon were behind German lines 50 ft from an outpost full of Germans and
he said a prayer. They all got out miraculously alive.
He has such compassion for those that have a hard road to recoverey since he walked that road too.

Sailor called this morning while I was in a company meeting. Had to have him call back. He sounded so tired. I was so worried and holding back tears until he called back. He was doing laundry at midnight.
It was nice to hear his voice good start to my day. Got chrostmas goodies sent. Thanks to whoever suggested using tinfoil and sucking air out of the bags with a straw. I just poured fudge into a ziploc cntainer ans taped it so no fudge could run out. Made truffels, packed them in mini cupcake papers in a contaier and. Five different kinds of cookies in tinfoil and ziplock bags.
