For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Any jar which might break should also be in a plastic bag, well sealed. I had a friend who sent jars and bottles with just paper wrapped around them. The post office handed me my box in a trash bag, the bottles had broken and soaked the box. Ick!

T-Lynn, fall is my favorite season also. I have mailed my son homemade jam. Wrap it well (I used newspapers) and pack it tight. He traveled back to Japan last year with several jars in his bag. I wrapped them for him but I don't think they where that tight in his bag. He gave one to his chief.

Not what I meant, T-Lynn, sorry for the confusion. I meant you could ask them if they carry apple butter in case you can't send it easily. He could pick it up himself.

The internet is amazing... you can email the commissary in Yokosuka, and I am assuming all other locations too. The commissary system has a website, with a page for individual locations:

Oops. For you civilians, the commissary is the base grocery store. We still make trips to our local air base to shop there, so much cheaper than civilian stores.

Thank you. I'll ask him. The apple butter is not home made. It is from Edward's Apple Orchard. Every Autumn - that was the place all would go for picking apples - getting fresh made apple cider and apple cider domuts - fresh made frudge and so on. Autumn is a favoirte time of year for this family His last phone call - he was missing this family and friend time very much. so we were hoping to send him some. Take care - feeling better? Tlynn

T-Lynn, apple butter will travel if packed well enough. I received things in glass jars, usually successfully. Not always. Is it homemade? If not, he should check the commissary, they may carry it. Oddly, many of the single sailors on ships and in barracks never go to the commissary. I have yet to figure that out.

Only Navy Dad could get food involved with his admins job. Quote: " ... from this desk - to the refrigerator- to the coach ..." end of quote. You need to meet my sailor Navy Dad - food is his favorite topic. He actually growled if anyone would touch his plate when he ate or tried to get another slice of pizza before him. You two could have a great Sasebo Burger! Just don't touch his plate while he is eating. I've said this before - oh - how I wish all of our Japan Sailors could meet. Our kids would have a a great time talking about us. And going to Epcot - and getting pictures and items to send to you son for Halloween - what a hoot! Oh - Jim - thank you. You really are a hero - you didn't sit and talk - you acted. And how about getting this Navy Dad on this site? His duaghter is stationed in Japan. Sandy - get a calendar and a planner - this year is going to fly by for you - so happy. Anita - if you like I would gladly send you long distance Reiki Healings to help you. Sure hopw you do feel better soon. Need to start crank duty - Mom is still stalling on what she wants me to bake. So I got frustrated and baked both chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies yesterday afternoon Yes, I did get the apple cider to go with. Need an answer to a question please: My son is wanting apple butter in the worst way. If I double wrap the jar of apple butter in bubble wrap and place it in 2 freezer zip lock bags - can I mail it?
