Sometimes when a family has so much - even making a call for help is overwhelming. Jim by you calling - that will be the best caring gift of all. Thank you

Kathy, Here's a site to see news and pics of what the 7th fleet is up to:
http://www.c7f.navy.mil/
You can also go back in the archives or search for the GW to get an idea of what they do and where they go. After the Talisman Saber this summer they had a big BBQ and Olympics on the flight deck.

Anti M - you are certainly right about being out more than in & the relief work that the 7th fleet does. I don't think Americans realize how much relief work and humanitarian aid the Navy and other forces do. Not to mention just about everyone time our sailors hit a port they seem to do volunteer work there as well. There's a ship in Australia right now planting a whole lot of trees.

The 7th Fleet is known for being out more than in. And there's a ton of relief work going on now, plus there are always exercises and sea trials... I'm just getting a bit OPSEC-shy about talking ships movements, even potential ones, LOL.

We attended a Japanese-American yard sale off base, very unusual, but Yokosuka isn't typical in many ways. We sold hubby's old jeans, some Levis, some off brands... complete with holes and stains, for more than we paid for them in the US. They went well because he's skinny and the smaller sizes fit the Japanese men.

Kathy - Welcome! What rate is your son? My Katie is a DC on the Essex out of Sasebo. The Essex was out to sea when Katie arrived in April, but they ended up flying her to the Philippines to join the ship there. I know while they were in Australia this summer that they flew sailors down under to meet the ship as well. You never know! I'm sure you have already joined the USS GW site as well.

Good Morning :),
Ok - Navy Dad said : this site is like comofrt food. Right now I am Pumpkin spice Coffee and a piece of Dark Chocoalte Cake. I agree with Carol, that would have been funny if that vaccum bag developed a leak. Hey, if it happened in Japan, do you think it would hit the International News? " U. S. Sailor received exploding package from home. - news at 5. " Then we could watch Navy Dad on TV! Have a good day - this is the day THEY (family) is here. Share later TLynn

The gossip here is better than the family. Now I have learned about Twinkies on a Stick and Fried Oreas. I gained just by reading on this site. Have a wonderful evening everyone. TLynn PS I agree too - Good one Mark :)

Brandy, yes, regular twinkies on a stick. Be careful not to burn then, and be super careful as the sugar filling gets really hot.

Fried foods... rare in my home, but now and then they;re great. My hubby likes deep fried Oreos when he's in Vegas. When we have a fire in the back yard, we roast coconut covered marshmallows and Twinkies. Toasted twinkie on a stick is quite the special treat!

I like Lands end because they have a good return policy, and they ship to FPO/APO. Well, they did when I was there, I haven't checked lately!
