I am reading the jet lag tips. Someone recently told me that you are either a east or west jet lager. When I went to Japan on business last year (didn't get to see my son) I had jet lag for 2 weeks of a 2 1/2 week trip and a one day adjustment when I got home. I remember going to Europe for a month when I was 16. I took a day to adjust when I got there and and a week of sleep when I got home. I also spent my summers in Banff, AB as a youngster (I was a figure skater). The first week was always a wash. I am not sure if it is true but I think I am an 'East' person. Anti M, you must be my oppisite.

I always did a bit better going west than east. There's a lot of variables though.

LOL, Carol, one can say that about me. And I want to do more!

Personally, I have always had minimal jetlag both ways if I follow a few tips.

Sleep on the plane. Sleep as much as possible, don't play video games or watch the movies.

Be rested before the flight, if you're hungover or exhausted, your body is trying to adjust to two things.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Take an empty water bottle through security and fill it on the other side. DRINK water. Lots of water, not sodas, alcohol or coffee.

Get some afternoon sunlight when you arrive, try to get some mild exercise in the peak awake hours of your new destination to teach your body what the new schedule is.

I don't recommend sleep aids or benadryl on the flight, they just do bad things to me.

When you can't sleep, try to get your feet up, and try to walk the aisles.

If you get queasy, carry ginger candy or cyrstallized ginger. Bring gum.

Who gets leave varies from command to command, even department to department. It isn't approved by "the Navy", it is approved by the COC these kids work with daily. If you change commands, they will possibly look at who is senior, who requests first, rarely who got to go home last holiday, especially if they were at a completely different command. It isn't based on anything I remember, although some chiefs try to keep it spread out. Some don't. I have never seen a Navy-wide regulation directing the approval of leave based on seniority.

Christmas in November isn't so bad!

Snopes is the best! I wish more new users would get introduced to it as soon as possible. I have a friend who passes along every wild thing on the internet, thinking it is all true.

Hi everyone, I don't know if any of you have received this infomration, but a fellow Navy Mom sent this to me. Jury Duty Scam. I even checked it out on snopes.com and the FBI website. A person calls and tell you missed jury duty and an arrest warrent has been issued for you. But they can help youif you give them your SS# and other personal information. . My mother mentioned that she heard it on teh news today - that this is happening now is Illinois. Just sharing. Have a good evening :) TLynn PS. Is there a Teriyaki Burger Man too? Like the Sasebo Burger Man.

I used to live around the corner from a 24 hour MOS burger. Nothing beats a teriyaki burger at three a.m. after a night of beer and games with friends. They're not beef, soy I think. MOS stands for Mountain Ocean Sky. The fries are great.

You have experienced "Engrish", MoND. There are computer programs which take concepts, then fit English words to the idea. It doesn't always turn out. "Where am I? This must be dream.I fly" or "Obscene art projects" or "Let's sports naked all day long!" or "Brain Shower Gum".

Question Navy Dad - wondering, just are your two favorite things in Japan? I have a feeling - your son and the Sasebo Burger. Could I be right? By teh way - my son has had one of those burgers and he said it is to die for.

I love Mongolian BBQ, most of the base clubs have it once a week.

The MWR tours are very good, an easy way to go see some sights without getting lost. We would go on a few, then know how to get around on our own if we wanted to go back.

Good to know the Lodge doesn't bump anymore.

Good Morning:)
Heard from my son last night. He talked for over two hours. His voice is so strong and he is so proud of being a sailor. He shared he took the test on September 10 for promotion. He will know in December if he passed. If so - he will be an E5. ANd he shared that if things work out eh way he likes he re-enlist. Anit M - thank you for the information. I pulled up this site and read to him about the Fall Bazar. He is not sure if he woill get this opportunity, but he is sharing with his shipmates. Good news for him - there has been some time or relaxing. He was able to go on a sight seeing tour! He so loved seeing this castle and a real Samuri's home that is still there from 1700. There is a chance of being able to attend another this coming weekend. Hope he can go. Just wanted to share with all. Enjoyed reading about the families going to Sasebo. Everyone have a good day TLynn
