Debi, Chicago is wonderful. I wish I'd been able to see more of it than the occasional weekend.

Melia, I don't know about the plumeria liquid, but I know if I wear a lei with it, I start sneezing within seconds. We had a bunch of plumeria growing in housing, everyday smelled wonderful. And we'd get boxes of mangos when we filed up at the gas station. The guy had dozens of trees along the road and he'd just give them away. But I am glad they don't burn the sugar cane fields anymore, that was terrible, black ash in our noses for days and days.

"Wog" is short for "pollywog". Crossing the equator is a big deal, always has been. Hubby just left or I could tell you about the poles, the dateline, the Greenwich line, and so on. There's a term for crossing them all, Shellbacks, Golden Shellbacks... I can look them up.

Chicken pox usually can't be caught twice. It is more dangerous in adults, the ship probably has a close eye on any sick sailors. They'll have plenty of lotion and fever-breakers on hand, the docs don't like sailors to try and treat themselves. I hope they all get better very quickly!

Well I am not a doctor, so I am only guessing. Chicken pox is supposed to give you live long immunity. But I think there are RARE cases that the first case was not enough to make you immune. Doctors... what do they know. They told me that I could not get the German Measles from the shot. I got the shot after my third child (long story). I ended up with a full blown case of the German Measles. What a mess. So my guess is that it is possible, but highly unlikely.
My mothers cure for chicken pox is benadryl. It worked for my kids. I think I was supposed to suggest a bath with oatmeal, brown vinegar or baking soda. But I was more of a "give them drugs" mother.

Thank you for the lei and the wish of Lei Day. I visited the the site about the this holiday and leanred that the lei is only given to share love - respect - and to honor someone. Sorry, thought it was for welcoming tourist. Thank you for caring about us. T:)

Hi -
Just off the phone with my son !!!!! He is out on spring tour and now, sounds like he is starting to enjoy it. Even thought his entire tour is Crank Duty. Now - he said he is being called a Wog or Wob ( sorry the connection was bad at times ) And the funny thing about this is that one of the officers of the ship is one too. Then he was so happy - he finally got a shipmate to go to something he wanted to see - the aquarium. And later today - he is hoping they wil see a Turtle museum. I know this sounds silly, but we grew up visiting museums - fossil digs - etc, and he was not having any luck with anyone who wanted to go. But that is changing. Then he told me one crewman came down with the chicken pox. Plus, after this poor guy did - two others came forward that they never had it! All I could think off was: take oat meal baths - place the bed linens into the freezers ( helps stop the itching ) and plenty of that pink lotion.
( brain dead here - help me out). And - my son already had the chicken pox back in second grade. But any ideas on what could be helpful to those guys? And can the chicken pox be caught a second time? And Anti M - he answered my questions: - sex hotels, vending machines, etc. And he still said that he knows no lther shipmate with a mom on N4Ms. I don't think he is going to tell them about it eithor! Will look forward to some advice on chicken pox. take care T:)

Oh, Melia, the plumeria are so lovely! I have a tiny bottle of plumeria perfume to remind me of one of my Navy homes... sadly, I'm horribly allergic to plumeria in person!

Reading has been interesting. Again educational for me. Just going to add my 2 cents worth. If you don't like it - just comment back - here's your 2 cents back. First - thank you ladies ( Princess and Melia). Both of you shared loving/ happy/importnat news. Princess - I did so enjoy hearing about your son's safe journey and a wish coming true. Melia - I feel you were wanting our sailors safe. With your husband's work - you must hear some of the negative things that have happened to sailors and if only someone had not shared some words - those sailors would not have been harmed. And truely - I don't care WHO created this website - it's been a need. I can only state it for myslef - it's been an answered need. Princess, I heard not only your joy about your son, but I heard and felt your relief of his SAFE arrivial. Melia, I heard and felt your joy for Princess, but still trying to be an extra pair of arms of protection. I believe you both just didn't hear each others concerns. I wish for you all to have a good day. I am trying - received a phone call from relative in Mexico - not good. Realtive - so far - not sick, but all news is not being reported. And for those of you who just thanks to the creator for my relative being ok - thank you. Take a breath - my healing energy from the greatest Love surround all of you like a warm blanket of hugs. Princess, what a wonderfull story. What ship is your sailor headed for. I agree, it is a beautiful country and culture. Our prayers are with your sailor and all of ours.
