Good Morning.
WELCOME Aboard Navy Dad ! Be so glad when you hear from your son and Carol - sorry about your son being ill. Please - both of you keep us posted. Espeically when these two sailors meet up, Hi Jaquelline, you will soon hear from several Moms with sailors on that ship. They will have much to share with you. Your son should get some leave ( I hope) to come home after A School - so enjoy all your time with him. And keep us posted when he leaves for Japan. As for my son - no communications. So I can't report any news about the sailor who came down with chicken pox. And there is a possibility of two more coming down with it. Thanks to everyone's good thoughts to these sailors and now I know we will keep Carol's son in our thoughts too. My day has started of beautiful - bright and sunny - and awaken with so many songs of birds. I wish your moring and the rest of the day to be beautiful too. T-Lynn

For the Yokosuka families --- Japan is never lacking on events, festivals and things to do and if your sailor is in port right now, it's a really fun time in Japan that is called Golden Week.

I received an email this morning from one of our neighbors in Japan, he retired from the Navy and stayed there --- so many sailors love it there

It's Monday of Golden Week, the weather is nice and I had one meeting and
two parties last night. Draggin' butt right now. GW, in case you don't
remember, is a collection of 3 holidays in one week. Kids come home from
college, the rice goes in the mud, festivals and BBQs all over the place.

We're playing at the local azalea festival on top of the highest point on
the peninsula tomorrow (Children's Day) . I've arranged Seahawk coverage
and a base TV crew to be there so look for more, probably next week.

Attached is latest flier on our July Fourth gig. It's at the old Nagai
Heights housing location. Photos on my myspace site also at the link on the
flier...Japanese but you can look at the pictures!

LOL, we'd need Hoppi for the up to date ins and outs of Navy regs. She's direct, but she's very good, very knowledgeable.

regs = regulations, i.e. rules.

Thank you.
Will be getting out my notebook and placing infomration in that. Easier for me to see. By the way, I a received a message from Anita - new Navy Mom with son in Japan. She asked how I removed my last name, I did the best I could in explaining, but told her to please come to this site if she is having trouble and talk with you :). Melia and Anti M - wish you two could get together and create a class. An actual class - where we Moms ( and Dad) could come for Navy 101. Not only would it be helpful, but just think of the gossip session! And getting actual hugs. Asking alot - but I would could use it. Just learned what chit means. Paperwork When my son first said that word to me - when he was in BC with a very bad cold - it did not sound like Chit! Now just think about this: your a mom - only get a few seconds on the phone with your child in BC - hearing how sick he is and can't get to him to make him better and then he says he will getting/earning a chit card - but hearing something else and wondering why the Navy is giving out cards so sailors can use the toilet. Yes, I know better now. I know - you both are shaking your heads. But a class would be so beneficial. Just a thought. T:)

Travel time on leave is counted as part of the leave time. And they want to have plenty of elbow room coming back to base in case a flight is delayed or canceled. When they are traveling on orders, that travel time is different. Leave is personal, so the travel time is on their own time.

They earn 2.5 days each month. Sailors in A school normally cannot take leave except around the holidays when the schools go into stand down. Even if they are on hold, they normally cannot take leave. Leave is more common between C school (if they have one) and their next duty station. Then they usually get around two weeks, the full 30 days is unusual.

On my homepage, you can see my blogs, I have one explaining many things about leave and how it is different from liberty.

Question - when on leave and they have to fly to get home - that is counted on their leave? Try to make myself clearer here. Travel time is part of leave time - right?
