Hi Everyone,
Has everyone seen what's happening over in Japan with North Korea? My daughter says they are safe but I can't help worrying about it all.
Jessica my daughter and son in-law are also in Yokosuka and they love it.

My daughter Kathryn is stationed on Okinawa at Kadena. She just celebrated her 21st birthday....remembering all those other birthdays. Seems like such a long deployment but she is loving every minute.

I didn't have much say in changing Daniel's room. The minute we got back from dropping him off at the recruiting station his brother started moving Daniel's stuff out and his stuff in. I really can't blame Cody, he was tired of sharing a room with his other brother Michael...lol It was sad, but it did help me get through boot camp better I think. Now...that room is sitting empty until May 1st. Cody will be back home but then the other room will be empty in August when Michael leaves for college. I am not dealing with all my boys leaving like this. I keep telling hubby I want to adopt so I have someone to take care of again.

Hi Everyone,
Need advice. A person named Lenette Kelley left a message on my page - someting about ringtones No I have not responded, but I did check out her page - she does not appear to be a Navy Mom and the messages left for her from other navy Moms are not happy ones. Bascily telling her to leave the site and leave them alone. Actaully one person said she was spamming. Please define this and if she is not a Navy family - who do I notify to block her? Advice please. Terry

What was funny after the first surgery, the sailor I worked with day in and day out pretended to be my spouse so he could come sit with me. They only allowed family members to visit the ward, maybe it was outside visiting hours, maybe it was too soon, I was too drugged to know for sure. We still send Christmas cards after twenty-something years.

No, the Navy doesn't call the family for injuries. Be sure you have a passport even if you aren't planning a visit soon. Second, be sure his buddies know to call you. The ombudsman can help, as can the Red Cross. I wouldn't even consider calling the recruiter for info on a fleet sailor!

I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and it was a good thing I was on duty that night. I'd have died if I'd been alone in my Japanese apartment. I think they may have contacted my first husband, but we were separated and he never came or called. I had to call my mom four days later when I could get up. Years later, when I'd remarried, I was right back at the same hospital. This pregnancy didn't rupture, but they told me I was going right into surgery after the ultrasound. I had to beg them for ten minutes to call my husband!

So it is up to your sailor and you to be sure there's a contact plan in place.

The volunteer work I did in Japan was arranged by the Japanese workers at my husband's command. The program through MWR looks newer to me, but it sounds like it is a good opportunity. Also, individual commands often set things up, a sailor can ask his command master chief or LPO.

Yokosuka is a big base; MWR offers something for almost everyone. I hung out in the woodworking shop a lot, but I don't know if that's still around. My friends did martial arts, one had a black belt in Karate. The Fleet Gym is really good, if it is the same one. Sasebo isn't quite as large, but every base has an MWR. You can find them online with a google search.

My hubby was involved with scouts even though we didn't have kids. And we joined a Japanese and American Harley riders group ... that was fun. I took a lot of college courses at night. We did go on a lot of the weekend tours. The Nagoya Fertility Festival was eye-opening! It just takes awhile to find what is where on and off base.

Hi Navy Moms!
Blessing of Spring!
It has finally arrived and I wish all of you a glorious and wonderful day. Make a wish for yourselves. Take care Terry
PS - Welcome new Moms. There are plenty of ears to hear you and hearts that care. We've been there and promise you will make it through just fine.

I worry that my advice is out of date or I misremember, but I do know there's more that can be done if the sailor knows who to ask. Sometimes things end up not happening the way they're "supposed" to happen, but there's always a reason. The trick is to make sure it is a valid reason and not a mistake.
