The sponsor can tell him what is going on and give him advice, that would be the person who could find out if his travel can be delayed or not. Once that plane ticket is cut, he's stuck. Once he lets his new command know he'd like time off, and if their schedule allows for that, then they can start sending messages to the people who cut the orders and arrange the travel. That's when he needs to talk to PSD I think. Personnel Department handles things such as order modifications.

If he's going to a ship which is deploying soon, he may not get his leave days.

PLS? New term to me .... his chief?

First, how many days of leave has he earned and not used? He needs to go talk to someone about what's on his orders ASAP. The orders may have authorized 21 days, but if he burned leave at Christmas, he may not have the full amount on the books to use. If he has orders, there's a number he can call to his new command and see if they need him right this minute or if he can get his orders modified to allow leave days.

Leave between A and C schools is always tricky. If she has checked out of A school, they can't sign her leave papers, and if she hasn't reported in to C school, they cannot either until she is there.

As for leave after C school and the overseas command, that full 30 days doesn't always happen. As Charley pointed out, it depends on the ship or command she is going to. Another factor is if she has leave on the books or not. Her leave for a home visit should be written into her orders, all she has to do is find someone who knows how to read them go over them with her.

I know I never called my mom enough, but that was when phone calls from Japan were all landline and terribly expensive. I did write a lot, and send cards and pictures. The Japanese have the cutest stationary in the world! Now mom is gone and I miss her very much.

Joan, thanks for reminding me of the positive changes after boot camp and A school. My son is deployed in Japan and I hardly hear from him. I am positive that this is the best thing for him. But, I miss him.

There is a lot of info about Yokosuka online. I was there twice, for a total of 12 years. Twice on my orders, and then as a dependent on hubby's orders. There is a lot to do in the area! MWR (morale, recreation and welfare) provides activities, tickets and tours, I highly recommend using their services.

Hi Stacy,
Did you get a picture of your son ironing his t-shirt? When I shared this about my son with family, no one believed me. They do now. And it makes a great memory. Terry

I was a sailor, stationed in Yokosuka. You bet I had ample opportunity to get in trouble. I didn't, but I could have. The laws have changed, so all the old sex shows are long gone. But like any big city, a sailor with money can find almost anything. And Japanese girls don't say No outright like American girls. Causes a lot of confusion.

Dear Melia,
I appreciate your courage and your kindness to make us aware. By you sharing we can send this infomration to our children - make them aware, or as my son once said: "I heard your voice in my ear mom". Thank you for helping us to be that voice Melia. Have a good day. Terry

Melia is right, Miyajima is a fantastic place to visit. Worth staying on the island for a few nights; we stayed at a ryokan (Japanese inn).
