Every command overseas has an FPO address which can be found via google.  You don't really need their department or division.  And yes, talking to the ombudsman can often be very useful.

MOMPLUS2- OMG!!! Your situation sounds just like a carbon copy of my issue! I was here pulling my hair out a couple weeks ago. I didn't know where to go or who to turn to. My son has been in Yokosuka for almost a year and I have begged him for his address. He kept making up excusessaying he wasn't sure it's a lot of numbers etc., and he didn't call often. I like you raised my kids by myself and my son is 21 years old and we did a lot of things together now we don't even talk like we used to and I was crying, upset. Finally my other kids kept saying mom he's just being irresponsible. I know my son can call more than he does seems to me he's gotten worse since joining the navy. That's how I feel. I thought the navy is suppose to make you responsible. Don't get me wrong I know they are busy but I cannot believe that busy to check on momma. Finally I went out and bought a international phone card and called the naval hospital and talked to an ombudsman we talked for almost an hour. He was great. I told him I was going to get a ticket and fly over there to see my son. He said don't do that because my son probably under not be happy about that. He explained that he is fine and sometimes they are so homesick that sometimes talking with someone from home makes it worse and he will come around. After we talked I received an email from him that said he just talked to my sons supervisor and he said he's okay. He said he can talk to my if I wanted him to but leave him be for a while and he will come around. I got the ombudsman info from AntiM that might be a suggestion. I think my problem is like you I did so many things for my son now he's a grown man and it's hard to let go. Add me on your friend list we can chat if you like.
Take care Oh by the way after a year my son finally sent me the address

Hello Ladies...I need to vent and I need your help and suggestions and as always need a listening ear. I joined here 4 years ago when my Son was assigned to Yokosuka. It was hard but with this site I found strength and support. My son was re-assigned to Guam earlier this year. I stayed on this site for the same reason I originally joined. "Hard to Leave" My Son and I are close.I raised both my son and daughter by myself since they were 4 and 14 months. My son doesn't like me to spend money on him. However, it gave me pleasure in shopping and shipping care packages, Easter, Birthdays...especially birthdays. Now he is going to turn 23 in a month and he won't give me his address. Again cuz he doesn't want me to spend money on him. He says " A Happy Birthday message will do"  I know this is my issue...but for 22 years I threw big parties and gave him gifts and now I can't send him even a card. This is killing me.I know I have to let it go but it hurts so bad. The other part of this ....the doctors told me I would never be able to have kids....and two miracles happened to me with hard work, procedures, mis-carriages and I lost his twin brother. so, celebration for birthdays is a big deal to me. If you have any suggestions on how I get through this, play dective and get an address or any words of wisdom I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for listening and again thank you for your support.

Thank you all for the medical information and encouragement.  Maggs - I love that she saw humor in it.

This year my son's nose was broken by a hatch on the ship while on deployment. During the next port they flew him back to Yokosuka for treatment after seen by that port hospital doctor. He was satisfied with the care he received

Kim, the main hospital at Yokosuka is very likely able to do his ACL surgery.  I had emergency surgery there twice, they are very good.  He will probably get some convalescent leave (don't count on him being allowed to travel) and then LIMDU (limited duty).  If he is on a ship on LIMDU, he might even be sent to a shore command for a while.

Japanese vending machines were terrific, although my favorite was not food, but all the different hot and cold drinks.  One by my house even sold bottles of whisky and small kegs of sake.  I loved street food too, and was excited whenever there was a festival.

There are several kinds of cook it yourself dishes.  Okonomiyaki and Korean BBQ , and sukiyaki, and teppenyaki.  Yaki means fried, grilled, or sauteed, so that explains that!

China has always been acting up n the south seas.  We are just hearing about it more.  One of those "keep an eye on it" situations.  I think if there will be open conflict, it will be in a generation or two rather than now.

Are any of you Mom's concerned about what is going on with our Children, Husbands,etc... in the China sea?

Hi there,  I am so glad I am eating lunch while reading your posts.  I would be starving.  My son has a torn ACL.  He has to have surgery - just found out this morning.  Do they do that surgery there in Yokosuka or do they transport them somewhere else in Japan or back to the states?  Feeling very bad that I can't be there for him.

Blondie,

Sending you positive thoughts.  Yikes, be careful! Not sure what we would all do without you.  Phooey on the doctors.  Like hubby said, serves them right.

I don't remember the vending machine food but it does not surprise me.  My husband still craves the little rice sandwiches he found at the convienence stores.  He would buy those and take them with him where every we would go. It is amazing how the train stations are like malls.
