No, those are dumplings I think. The place we went for Okonomiyyaki put everything in a bowl. You stirred it all together then dumped it out onto a griddle. It was like Korean BBQ where you cook your own food.

The pancake, YES!  Okonomiyaki. (o-ko-no-mee-ya-kee)  One of my favorites!

The Mc Donalds Teriyaki burger was "the bomb".  And you are right about the fries, THICK.  I think we got something from the bakery in the train station everyday.  It was really fun experiencing all the food.  I liked the "pancake" too.  It had cabbage, choice of meat, carrots and other stuff mixed in a pancake like batter.  It was also really good.  We ate back alley a lot and had lots of great food.  Took the trains every where and walked all over Japan.  At least it felt that way.  We went to Mt. Fugi, the bowing deer, saw the monkeys, lots on shrines a castle, rode bikes.

We also used AirB and B for accomidations.

Blondie, I am laughing because I was raised on sticky rice and prefer it.  Only the sushi rice is sweetened, but sticky rice can taste sweet because it has no salt or butter.  I'm such a Californian, even though I don't live there now!

I like the black beans alright, but the sweet red bean paste is my favorite.  I miss it a lot. I can get Japanese food here, but not the sweet cakes.

LOL, "love" not live.  I could live on Japanese food though.

And the bakeries can be amazing.  And yes, they have Dinkin Donuts in Japan, and Denny's.  Again, not quite the same as in the US.  Fast food places in Japan can be a lot of fun. I like the MOS Burger teriyaki burger, and they make good thick fries. Yum.

Here is a guide to types of Japanese food, be sure to click on each link.  Sushi is not all raw fish!  I live tempura and katsu-don, and of course, all the noodles.  And Korean BBQ!  The Chinese food there is delicious, but not the same as what we get in the US.  (Sorry, I;m hungry!)

Since I have never traveled abroad, we are using AAA to assist.  I just got a big package of stuff from them regarding Japan.  You may want to consider using a travel agent for some information and tours etc. Anti M - you posted information regarding Atsugi - does anyone have information regarding Yokosuka.  On a even happier note - my son called me this morning.  It was really nice to hear his voice.   He hurt his leg on Saturday and is in a brace and crutches.  Waiting for the results of an MRI.  Did I mention that it was so nice to hear his voice.  Makes for the perfect start of a weekend.  BYW  Happy Father's Day to any Dads out there!
