KIM; Congrats on your new grandchild.... My son is signed up for 5 years but I don't think he's going to C school, is it more money, etc if you go to C school bs just going to A school? Be safe on your trip love NY WATCH OUT FOR THE TAXI DRIVERS LOL

My son had trouble with Tricare.  They moved when she was pregnant and had to switch doctors.  The old doctor refused to send records.  My son went up his command and they put pressure on them.  It seems the doctors fear getting put on the bad list.

AntiM, not much different with HMO's.  I was capitated to a podiatrist that charged me a $50.00 copay and said "That is really swollen, the xray looks good, make an appointment for  next month".  Six months later I still couldn't walk and I stomped  my good foot at my PCP to insist on a new podiatrist.

Kim, I have been referred to a podiatrist and see him next week.  LOL, I am on Tricare and do not get to pick my doctor. They pick for me.

Ah, C schools.  Some ratings are okay as a "quad zero", while others, especially the technical ratings, they are mandatory or the sailor is next to useless to the Navy.  I was an ET and went to a lot of C schools.  One long one after A school, but a few others in between duty stations, and one four week one while I was stationed in Japan (micro-miniature soldering).  So the C school experience can vary a great deal from one sailor to the next.

Drew, is he going to the hospital in Yokosuka?  That is a big command, they have their own barracks, and can be strict about details for the junior sailors.  It is a busy place, he'll work his tail off.   I have a very positive view of that hospital, they saved my life twice with emergency surgeries.  Of course, I know he could be going to a ship, they have HMs also.

2tymenavymom: Oh I see, thank you so much for the info. My son is in A school now and graduates in 4 weeks I think he's coming home on leave for a couple weeks and off to Zjapan I asked him how come he's not going to C school and he's said he did not want to go to C school, that's why I asked if its mandatory that he go to C school because everyone doesn't go am I correct? He has Been getting 90 or95 or better on all his tests. But I don't think he's going to A school.

If he does get a c school, he should look forward to it. Just one more certification he gets for free. The navy gave me a 70,000$ education and a career as a surgical tech. I'm even certified nationally.

Definitely mandatory. When you are going through the last phases of a school you fill out something commonly referred to as a dream sheet. You list your top three picks on a slip of paper and turn it in. Some people ask for c school and don't get it based off of grades, while someone who did not want school got the slot because their scores are so high. Uncle Sam has to fill a quota, which is based off of needs of the fleet. So if they need 20 8483's in a particular month, they fill that quota by pulling sailors from the four classes that graduate in that month. Once you get orders to c school, there is no way you can change it.
