Christine - I would hold off buying a phone till your son gets his orders.  These ladies are right about the Japanese phones.  I'll keep my fingers crossed your son gets orders for Japan...love it when they get the orders they want.    My son just recently left Yokosuka but really enjoyed his time there. Keep us posted.

Christine he will need to get a Japan phone when he gets over there. If he is not going to be in Pcola very long I would not waste my money. e will be showed what the best plan is over there. My son paid about 80 a month but that includes the cost of the phone. There plans run a bit different that here in the states. Sockmonkey is right about facetime, messenger and email being the best way to communicate. My son and DIL both loved it there. I am sure your son will also. Tell him to explore all that he can he won't regret it.

Christine - My son is in Japan right now also.  For us - the best way to communicate has been through Facebook and facebook messenger. My son has wifi in his room and it doesn't cost anything to use messenger - although he does pay to have the wifi in his room. My son also uses an iphone 5s. Since my son is also working with the Marines and they go to different countries for training - he actually has Sprint service while in Korea. When he went over there - I added an international plan to his phone and he is able to text. Hope this information helps - I know I was very confused when my son was getting ready to go over there. Let me know if you have other questions.

Hello all!  Our son is just about to finish boot camp and head to A school.  He hopes to be assigned to Japan.  Our question is about cell phones. What do your sailors do for a cell phone plan?  And do they use their phones from the USA?  Do they use a phone plan that is based in Japan?  We'd like to buy him a smart phone to replace his super-simple phone but if he'll just have to get another one in Japan, we don't want to waste good money.  Thanks!

Maggs...I had one day in DC. My son has a friend who's Summer job is as a Segway tour guide in DC. I went to all of the War Memorials (so emotional on the 71st anniversary of D-Day), the Lincoln Memorial and saw about 1/3 of the National Gallery. My step counter said I walked 17,685 steps that day. I was slow but sure. We didn't do the Segway!!

Maggs....saw this on the Internets and thought of you! Almost wet my pants laughing. I just realized in reading posts that you are in Maryland. I was at Ft Belvoir from 4 June to 7 June for my son's Frocking Ceremony. We went to the National Aquarium one day. Wow! What a cool aquarium! Plan to visit him next Spring....maybe a N4M meet/greet???

Been reading and not posting. I have been on the Autoimmune Protocol for about 2 months in an effort to inhibit the Hashimoto's symptoms and adrenal fatigue. It is a way of eating that restricts anything that causes inflammation in the body. It seems to be working but will take a lot of time. I miss my coffee and chocolate not to mention eggs, tomatoes, peppers, legumes and even gluten free grains. Trying to get my energy back. Patience is not my best virtue!

Corpsman....or I should say HM3,,,is doing well. He was at the Nationals game where Sherzer had the perfect game going. He was at first base a few rows up. He totally thought that guy leaned in!

It's 100 degrees here in the NW. No A/C so I went to the movies where I needed a sweater 'cause the A/C was so cold! Saw "Jurassic World" in 3D. Holy Cow. Great dinosaurs but weak story. I'm a sucker for dinosaurs though.

May all those in need of comfort and healing be comforted and healed.

Love all the pics posted!!! Have a great weekend!

Hi from Central California--

Well it took me quite a while to catch up with you all.  So much news, good and needing prayers, prayers are and will be sent.  Loved the Wedding Pictures and Riker.  He has grown so much.  Maggs the hummingbird pics are really beautiful.

Well I too, have some sad news, my kitten, Baxter, got out a week ago, and hasn't returned.  Unfortunately, living in the foothills that's not a good thing.  I sure do miss him, even Lily (my 14 year old cat) does too.

On a pleasant note, I heard from my sailor on Friday and yesterday, twice in once week.  I'm a lucky momma.  He gave me a new address yesterday, and of course my Blue Star Moms group, mailed packages on Tuesday afternoon.  I sure hope he gets the packages.  I tucked a crocheted beanie and a pillowcase in one package.  The pillowcase is Dodger fabric, and the beanie is in Dodger blue and white.  Think he likes the Dodgers?

Ok everyone, what the are big plans for the 4th of July?  I will be traveling to So. Cal to be with family, and returning on the 5th to attend our AAA baseball team's (the Grizzlies) Military Night.  My Blue Star Moms group, will have an information table.  I really enjoy going to the Grizzly games.  It's fun to watch all the people.

Please say some prayers for California, there were 3 wildfires in Central Cali this last week, they were all over 30 miles away from me.  The dang Drought has made everything so DRY!!  Those of you getting rain, try to send some to California.

Well, have to go.  Take care all and have a wonderful weekend.  Stay cool and/or dry, but enjoy!!

Hi

Maggs- awesome and amazing talent you have. He is beautiful. Sending Reiki Energy to you for the next 7 days. And I agree with Blondie - get a massage and see if you can find a reflexologist too. They can hit teh pressure points on your hands or feet.  Gentle hugs friend.

Blondie - good to hear from you. Take your time to feel better.

Cheryl - cute pictures. You should send him a copy of these pictures in a care box. He will enjoy it.

Need to get - still finishing up on cub scout stuff.  hugs
