Thank you, Barbara!  I will tell him.  Yes I am blessed with a very good "Handy Man".  He is the best!   I do plan to stick around, you ladies are just too much fun to leave. Have fun babysitting.

Blondie, love the ring.  Thanks for reposting those pictures. Your help sounds awesome!  So glad you finally got someone.   Hang in there, girl!

T-Lynn - Wow you are just bubbling with news.  Congrats on the house!!  Pictures please!

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!  Cooler temps are on the way for us next week.  Looking forward to it.

Welcome all new Moms!

Blondie, that is sweet:) I hope they get together soon- so nice they are Both sharing with you!
The ring is gorgeous-  I want one! lol.
I like the "mind your own family"-gonna have to remember that one.  Doesen't Everyone have those members that need to hear that!
Yay!  Hope Lori works out-sounds good so far:)
Beautiful salute.  Double kleenex alert!

Missmom, wow, big news!  Good luck to your son and thank him for his service; let us know how he is doing.
Messy maybe, but lucky you to have a handy husband!  My dad was like that.
Don't forget-always a Japan Mom:)

Maggs-Love it- your family is awesome!

T-Lynn, yippee grandma!  The 21st is a nice date! (my sailor's b-day, ha ha) ....at 6lb. 8oz
Love the pic.  Sorry she is sick, only thing I ever heard of was having a few crackers Before getting out of bed in the morining.  Usually, just time
And a new home too!  How exciting!  Very happy for you:)

Blm-Yay for same time zone!
The one thing I really love about this area is the long twilights we enjoy, especially in the summer.  I know it is not like this everywhere-how is it there?
So far, seems like everyone is working to keep the Bills here.  Sorry, Kim, (not really, ha ha) but those Toronto games did not work out as well as they'd thought.

And Kim- Congrat's on Baby Boy!  Good luck learning Japanese and good for them maintaining a bi-lingual household-so much easier to learn a language and will def be an advantage for him.

Dramasoul-sounds like a Wonderful trip!

AntiM- me too, side effects with most meds, especially if they want me to do them long term.  My body is like, uh uh, nope, not going to do this. ugh.

Welcome new moms!
Ditto what advice was already said- my sailor also Loves Japan and the culture and exploring.
They will be super busy at first, so not much communication until they settle in a little and then it will get better.  Most Skype and text/e-mail.  Holidays and special days will be hard, so just jump on here for support and always keep positive for them-they will miss you too, but will grow and mature and you will be so proud of them!  And let us know how they are doing:)

Well, off to get ready to babysit overnight:))
I don't do this often so looking forward to the fun!

hi
WELCOME NEW Moms and gossip more!

And I agree with all teh advice Anti M - Kim - Blondie shared. I really share that your sailors get that passport! ANd, check out teh climate of the area your sailor will be stationed. Why? Because our sailor called home mid November ( he was in Sasebo ) begging for us to send him his long johns - he was freezing. We sent three pairs. Those things run out fast at the Nex and the Japanese stores don't have the sizes

Saw another  ultra sound today of the baby. Could see teh spine and now arm and leg numbs. And what a heart beat. Yes proud Grandma here.

Oh more gossip - we purchased a house - we close on the 25th. Didn't say anything because all the hoops we had to jump through. Here in IL if you are a first time home owner - you have to take classes - pass the test - get teh certificate and give it the bank - then get approved ! We and the kids are going together to get this home. For teh first time -hubby and I will have our own area. Will share pics when the move is done.

Need to get along  hugs all

My daughter has been in Sasebo since December.  She was  very nervous at first (not even close to her first choice!) but absolutely loves it.  She said not only are the locals friendly, a Japanese woman walked with her to the "blue bus" she needed to take, but when she got to base, she knew many of the sailors from BC and A School.  Her recruiter was there too!  She got a Japan phone right away.  We are able to talk when she's in port, and email a lot.  There are so many sailors on base that are more than willing to show the newbies around and help them get accustomed, and they develop new friendships easily. She loves it there, misses home, but has already traveled to places many people only dream of.  She has told me often that she can't imagine doing anything else, and loves her life.  I wish the same for your sailor.  Hang in there Mom!

I spent 12 years on Yokosuka (Yo-KO-S'ka, the u is almost silent), my husband was also in Sasebo, I have a sailor in Atsugi, and I've been TDY to Okinawa.  I was in Japan both on my own orders, and later, on my husband's orders (two tours each!).  It certainly added up.

It is indeed a clean, safe country, and usually very welcoming to Americans.  The food is fantastic and there is so much to do.  It is expensive, but the Navy does give a COLA to help out.  Spouses can find work on base if they want it, although the jobs vary wildly.  You can go to college courses (not free though).  MWR has good tours and programs.

I adored the culture. We lived in town, but they seem to have expanded the base housing options. If base housing is available, I think you have to take it now.

Driving in Japan is different, some people don't even bother with it.  I got around by bus, train and bike.  We even did our commissary runs on bikes!

Yes, it rains a lot.  You will get good with umbrellas.

Be careful with your stateside phone if you keep it.  Turn off your roaming, the bill can soar.  Also, it becomes difficult to make local calls to other sailors or dependents who have the Japanese phones.

Yes on the passports, the opportunities for leisure travel can be great, and you want one in case of emergency.  The military ID can be used for leave travel, but is limited in scope.

Be sure your sailor gets a sponsor, they can make the transition much smoother.  When you first arrive, the sailor will be required to attend an inter-cultural introduction to Japan.  Spouses can attend as well, make sure you're signed up for it.

Hi I'm Bonnie, my daughter just called from A school in Pensacola and said she received her orders although vague she will be a part of the US seventh fleet. She doesn't know if she is ship based or land based. She is IT.  I'm beside myself of course because she is going to be so far away. ANY  encouraging info would be great right now. I hear its a favorite among sailors as far as a station. How will I talk to her? How often can she visit home?

Mississippi mom, pass this to your son:  http://studentveterans.org/what-we-do/in-state-tuition.html

Maggs, That it so COOL!

TLynn, My DIL had that until the end of the 1st semester.  It started when she was in Japan and she had to deal with it on the long flight home.  Good luck to your DIL.

DramaSoul, LOL,  I've seen 2 posts before, but 3?  I read all 3.
