Yes it is a small world. Maybe sometime we could all meet in Buckhannon and share a meal together, and brag about our sailors!

Penny, he's leaving for Basic on Dec. 14....the recruiter calls it shipping out so I thought that's what it was called. I have a lot to learn. Nathaniel is going to be an MA. I guess we won't find out where he will be stationed until a few weeks into A school.

I'm so glad I found this group. My son will ship out 12/14/10. I'm going to need support about then. I am a single mother with three sons, and we are all very close. I am so very proud of him, but I am going to miss him badly! My prayers are with you all and your sailors.

Jacqueline, great to hear he's doing well... but please, DON'T give details like the name of the base in a war zone and his work schedule. OPSEC applies to these small groups also. It may not seem like much to you, but really, this is the little bits of info that a baddie can build a big picture with. It may seem like common knowledge to you, but that doesn't matter. That's info that doesn't belong on a public board. Keep him safe by not over-sharing.

Sorry about the rant, I used to have a TS clearance and had this stuff drilled into my head.

My Hubby, who is the hillbilly of the family, mumbles about me being a "city kid". We live in Utah now. His family in Clarksburg thinks I'm strange ... I'm a a Californian by birth and was raised Navy. Sigh. I probably am a city kid.

Heck, I remember the gas chamber in boot camp and that was 30 years ago! We did battle stations, but our "ship" wasn't much more than plywood and ladders... nothing like the realistic one they have now. There's a group on here about battlestations, has a really good video.

Jacqueline, my thoughts are with your son, and you, and his wife. May you all be reunited safely and joyfully.

Shelly, sounds like she is in the difficult adjustment part of boot camp. Things will come along more easily soon, and once they begin acting as a unit, they pride and hopefully a few privileges will come along also.

The physical stuff actually comes easier in bootcamp than one would think, but being prepared doesn't hurt at all. They should try to memorize the 11 general orders before bootcamp, because they will be asked them constantly, and in stressful conditions, backwards and forwards.

Check my blogs, I have one on advice to take to bootcamp. Aimed at women, but works for guys too.

Thank you for allowing your children to serve!
