Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

It's actually a Marine base but my son is in the Navy and is stationed along with a lot of others that make up Navy forces. And I would love to hear information from others about the area, or others that have family or friends stationed there.

He will be with VP 9.  He is a AM.  I am excited for him as I grew up in Hawaii and miss it greatly.  I am hoping he makes friends out there.  Continue

http://www.mcbh.usmc.mil/   (the base website)

Be sure to contact his unit's (squadron? team?) ombudsman and get on their email list for newsletters, happenings, local fundraisers, deployment info and photos.  Find their team website (example:  my son's squadron is the Golden Swordsmen) and their website lists the ombudsman  as a contact for families.  Those two gals (Navy wives) are very helpful and welcoming to me. We get a newsletter once a month.

Also: K bay marine base hosts a huge marathon run right out on the runways, once or twice a year...my son participates and its great fun.  Also they are the host of the Blue Angels, so lots of excitement there too. here's a picture of the run- my son in red shirt # 315

oh thats so sad :(  my prayers to his fellow marines, friends and family.

Thank you all for responding, i am glad i found some people with stuff in common. does the base actually have a web site or facebook page? is there a way i can keep up with the goings on?

terrible terrible tragedy occurred today just off K-Bay...Marine Helo went down and 3 survived, one was killed.  My son's plane was diverted to Honolulu at the time, as the area and runways were unusable.

So sad....blessings to the Marine and his family.
