Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

Information

Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

It's actually a Marine base but my son is in the Navy and is stationed along with a lot of others that make up Navy forces. And I would love to hear information from others about the area, or others that have family or friends stationed there.

He will be with VP 9.  He is a AM.  I am excited for him as I grew up in Hawaii and miss it greatly.  I am hoping he makes friends out there.  Continue

AIM, there's a brownie company that will mail to apo/fpo military addresses for free, no shipping charges to you...it's called fairytale brownies...here's the link.

otherwise, maybe someone close to Kaneohe can give you a bakery or deli nearby that will deliver/mail a cheese cake to the base??  Good luck!

My son lives on a hill and he is okay and said as far as he could tell, the K-Bay marine base was okay too.  But his squadron got the day off...strange.  I wonder how the beaches did there, along that eastern side??

Our son told us some giant rain storm hit overnight, a few days ago, he had to get to the base for an overnight flight, and he had to drive thru some pretty deep water.Road crews later closed that stretch of road.  Now his car makes' bubbly ' noises...so he's having it looked at by a mechanic-just in case.  He's driven thru the flash rain storms before, but this was the worst, and it was dark.

I've heard about those flash floods crossing the roadways...guess it's true!

Delete Comment I found out AWAT is Advanced Weapons and Tactics, weapons, firefighting etc. He has to pass this and ATT, Advanced Technical Training before he can class up. Plus another Mom told me there are no classes starting in Dec. so if he doesn't pass and class up soon he will be waiting until Jan. I hope they keep him busy, he's not one to look for trouble and has a good head on his shoulders but you know how it is when they are idle. Sandy said yesterday they have been offered base housing, a brand new house they can move into the 9th! She is so excited.
Debra, I know what you mean, such a mix of emotions. Do you have international on your cell phone? It will be great when he is back and you can travel to Hawaii. The best part of a trip is the planning and anticipation!

Heard from Sam in Pensacola, he has started the AWAT, I'm not sure exactly what that is,some kind of test. When that is done he will start school for being an AD. Sandy got the base stickers for KBay, a huge milestone! Now she can drive herself to work. Very proud she did it by herself while her husband was off island for training. I miss them both terribly but am proud of all they are learning to do.

Hi Moms, boy with our kids so far away we really need to hold each other up. With Sam in BC I'm afraid I've been more on the receiving end than the giving. As I settle in for the long haul will keep in better contact with you.
Debra, I text my kids or call when I haven't heard in a while. Sometimes they don't answer, I give them the benefit of the doubt that they are busy the first couple times, but I keep "bugging" them until they answer.

Hi Debra, my son is Navy in boot camp right now with a PIR of 10-9-09. It's my daughter that is in Hawaii. Her Marine is stationed at Kaneohe Bay. She moved there in Aug. and doesn't seem to know anyone yet. She is the one with the car they can't decide to fix or junk that I put on the Hawaii discussion. I would love to get to know Moms with family in the area.
