Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

Information

Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

It's actually a Marine base but my son is in the Navy and is stationed along with a lot of others that make up Navy forces. And I would love to hear information from others about the area, or others that have family or friends stationed there.

He will be with VP 9.  He is a AM.  I am excited for him as I grew up in Hawaii and miss it greatly.  I am hoping he makes friends out there.  Continue

TEXmom21, he will think he has arrived in paradise. Like yours, my son is stationed on K-bay. It is a wonderful base. His car will be shipped by the Navy. It will either go from Orlando or San Diego. There is all sorts of paper work he must have so check the website. It took my son about 4 - 6 weeks to get his car. If you get a chance to go visit, stay on base. The East and North end of Oahu is the place to be. Good luck!

tex mom21 Might be best to Post your questions here, rather than via emails, I 'm not so sure we can

respond to you via email -your message states: "do not reply" so not sure about that?? So checking in here might be better?
WELCOME and your son will LOVE Kbay!....quieter, awesome beaches, not so crowded, small town feel, but great restaurants, shops, a mall or two, fantastic views and hiking, trails, canoes, adventures all right there. I don't know anything about shipping cars....someone here may answer, or maybe at the "Hawaii" group? -- you should join that one too, lots of archives & resources there. Or search key words such as "shipping cars" and then discussions will pop up at the FORUMS tab. See above.

Lynda,
My son is land based,no ship for him. He could be detached not deployed. Thanks for the good wishes!

Hi Lynda,

We've looked at that cruise too. My fear is that we'll make all these arrangements and at the last minute we'll find he's leaving on detachment.  At that point we can't cancel. After all who wants to wear a shirt that says "Having a great time in Hawaii, wish you were here".

I think we might be looking at a year from this May. We also thought of a cruise around the islands.  I think this will be a one time trip so we're going to make the most of it.

Thanks Everyone,  My son also told me that the water is rough during the winter months, not good for snorkeling.  That during that time the surfers take over the water as the waves are big.  We we're hoping May so we'll look into that.

Good to hear.. thanks Becky.

The cabins on base are fantastic. Clean, roomy with full kitchens. Walk out and onto the beach. Yes, you will see air traffic, but it is not disruptive. Take snorkel gear. We just spent a week there. These are the best accommodations on the east side of Oahu. And have a great visit with your son. Wifi was not available, but if your son has a smartphone, he can connect.
