It's actually a Marine base but my son is in the Navy and is stationed along with a lot of others that make up Navy forces. And I would love to hear information from others about the area, or others that have family or friends stationed there.

He will be with VP 9. He is a AM. I am excited for him as I grew up in Hawaii and miss it greatly. I am hoping he makes friends out there. Continue

Has anyone stayed on base? My son said he can rent a condo/townhouse near the flightline? Just wondering if they're decent and if they offer wifi. My other son is going with us, but he does his work online and needs access to the internet.
Good going Pam!
We're doing our first trip in July since we were told by our Corpsman to come on this day and leave on this day! Haha.. he's returning from deployment and will have post-deployment leave.
Nov - March is their typical rainy season, and last week of april is known as golden week
....3 Asian festivals then and places can get crowded and booked up. :-)
very hot in July and August.
We went in September....it was perfect, not too much rain, and still sunny bright days. Winds cooled things down at night. Be sure to have an air conditioned place.
CruAn, we went in October and it was perfect. Fewer tourists. Christmas and summer are more difficult. Good luck and have fun.
My husband and I are trying to plan our 1st trip to visit my sailor. Is there a time of year to avoid? Of course we could plan the perfect vacation & he might end up on detachment. LOL. Any suggestions?
that is so wonderful Lynda...spring is good on Oahu!
Thank you Pam. School is always a great choice too!
Congratulations to your son Storymom! Not sure mine is going to reinlist after his 5 1/2 years is up at the end of 2015. He had to extend his contract by 8 months to get Hawaii but he really wants to return to school. We'll see, after all, that's a whole year and a half away!
