Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

It's actually a Marine base but my son is in the Navy and is stationed along with a lot of others that make up Navy forces. And I would love to hear information from others about the area, or others that have family or friends stationed there.

He will be with VP 9.  He is a AM.  I am excited for him as I grew up in Hawaii and miss it greatly.  I am hoping he makes friends out there.  Continue

My son just had his RE-enlistment ceremony at K-Bay, out by the Iwo Jima Memorial Monument! Spent his first day of Boot Camp on Valentine's Day, many, many years ago.  We are so proud of his re-enlistment!

He loves his VP-47 Aircrew Career!

Happy Valentines Day to All!

Hi Proud, your son's Squadron should have an Ombudsman website/facebook/ email connection.  Get into those (usually a closed group, so you must just ask to join, and ID your son's name, rank) Also the Squadron itself should have a facebook page and website--ours does.   But a Navy Facebook site for ALL the Squadrons combined?  at K-Bay?  I have never found one -- anyone else out there know of one?  Here's the actual website for the Marine Corps Base at K-Bay (where the USN air station is located)    http://www.mcbhawaii.marines.mil

Thanks Becky! I was also wondering if the Navy command has a Facebook page for the sailors stationed at K-bay? I get alot of useful information from his current command through fb. Ok, honestly, I stalk him, and find valuable information!

Proud MomS, here is the web site: http://mccshawaii.com/lodge Then you will find a good description of what they offer. If you need further help, let me know.

Becky, is there a website link you can post for the lodges? I only found Pearl Harbor lodging when I googled.

Becky - my son will soon be deploying overseas also.  He was stationed in Italy though two years prior to arriving at K-Bay.  Our main communications were through Skype or email.  Skype in Italy was hit or miss because the internet service was so bad.  He did have a pay as you go phone, but mainly for phone calls over there and that was because he was there for two years.  I know you can turn international on your cell phone, but it is very expensive!  I'm thinking about turning mine on over the holidays while we are on a cruise.  The thought of no cell phone usage for five days is pretty hard for me to take!  Ha, ha.  This will be our first deployment so more things to learn for us.
