Angie,  If you can go with us on the 21st to help write thank you cards, you are welcome to ride with me, too.  I actually live in Lawrenceburg, but commute to Lexington each day to be the librarian at Sandersville Elementary.  You could come to the park-n-ride just off the BG Parkway at the Lawrenceburg exit to meet me and ride with me from there to Louisville to meet the others.  Let me know if you can go and want to ride with me.

Congratulations jboysmom!!! How exciting!

I live in Lexington too.

Hi Ladies,

Sorry that I haven't been on much lately, but like all of you, I've been very busy.

Here's my good news:  I have been accepted to be a guardian for the July 9th Honor flight that will be taking a group of WWII veterans to DC.

After Dolphin told us about the Honor flight, I went to their website www.honorflightbluegrass.com to find out more about it.  I found an application on there to be a guardian and I applied.  I just got my acceptance on Thursday and now I will be going to their orientation/training tomorrow (Sunday).

I'm so excited to be going as a guardian for the Honor flight!  A guardian is a helper that goes on the flight to assist the veterans.  Many of them are in wheelchairs or use walkers and will need help getting on and off the plane.  Then help on the bus and at the memorial.  I will be able to personally honor these veterans by helping them on this special flight.

I was asked to help on the June 6th Honor flight, but I had to tell them I couldn't do that one because it's the due date for my grandbaby!  The countdown has begun.  Only 23 days until the due date!  My son got his leave request approved and he will get 14 days for parent leave when the baby is born.  I'm so glad he will get to spend 2 whole weeks bonding with his baby.  Of course, I plan to be there to help out for the first few weeks as well.  Both grandmothers are going to take turns spending time down there to help out this summer.  Thankful that I'm off school for the summer so I will be going to Norfolk as much as possible!

I've been having my students make thank you cards and letters for the WWII vets and I will bring those with me on Saturday when we all get together to make our own Ky Navy Moms cards for the vets.  This is a great project for us to take on and I really hope others will join us.

I have a BOGO (Buy One Get One free) Book Fair this week, so if anyone is in Lexington, come on by Sandersville Elementary in Masterson Station and do some shopping.  I'd love to see you!

I'll be there too, I just have to figure out how to click on the RSVP section to say yes.

Dolphin, the event looks great!  You even added a picture that is perfect for the event.

Come on, all you KY Navy Moms.  Let's have a big group come out to our special event on May 21st to write thank you cards to the WWII veterans going on the honorflight.  This is such a special way for us to give back to some veterans for their amazing service to our country.

I have been talking to my library classes this week about WWII veterans and am giving the students an opportunity to make a thank you card.  I tell the students to think of their freedom as a gift from these veterans.  I ask the students, "What are the first words that should come out of your mouth whenever you get a gift?".  They all answer "Thank you".  I tell them that is what we are doing by making these cards for the WWII veterans - thanking them for the gift of freedom they have given us.

To RSVP to the thank you note event, just click on May 21 on the calendar on the right column of this page and then click on the Ky Navy Mom event at Joe's Crab Shack in Louisville.

Sheila - It sounds like you had a great Mother's day.

Dolphin - I got your PM and I can't wait for the 21st. to get here. I'll keep looking for more details as the date gets closer.

Have a good Monday everyone.

Dolphin, I will say prayers for your son and I have already been praying for Sheila's son.

I tried to contact Brian this week, too, but had to leave a message.  I'm going to apply to be a guardian/volunteer for the honor flights that go later in the year and was contacting him to see if there are still openings or not.

I would love to meet on 5/21 for lunch to help write thank you notes.  I will also have some of my library classes write notes this week.  We are still doing state testing on Monday and Tuesday, but I could get my classes later in the week to write notes to the WWII vets.

I won't be able to go to the airport on June 6th because that is the due date for my grandbaby!  However, if she has not arrived by that date, I would love to go to the airport to give a supportive send-off to the vets.  I'm hoping the grandbaby is a week late on arrival because my son's ship will be out at sea from June 1-10.  I know my DIL doesn't want to go over with her pregnancy, but I'm praying that she'll be a week late so that my son will be able to be there for the birth.

Happy Derby day everyone!

Dolphin, Count me in to help donate to sponsor a WWII vet for the Adopt-A-Veteran flight.  I think this is a great idea.  Do you know how much it costs to sponsor a vet?  I looked at their website, but didn't see any prices mentioned.  I may even apply to be one of the guardians that volunteer to help on the trip.  I'm volunteering at the Rolex 3-Day events this weekend and the volunteer bug has hit me.  Just let us know which way you want us to help with the sponsoring.

Hi all in Ky. I'm on the road with my husband and we're heading to Norfolk. We are following my son and DiL back to base. We have both cars full of all the baby shower gifts from this weekend. Such a blessing to have so many supportive family and friends.

Sheila, I will be praying for you and your Mom. You hang in there and get as much rest as possible. Good advice from others to ask for some help. The ladies of your church will be great to help come sit with your mom. Just don't be afraid to ask for help.

Dolphin, what is the username of the mom you mentioned that has someone moving to Norfolk? I would love to hook them up with my son and his wife.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Sheila I am praying that you can find relief very soon from your stressful situation. I hope that the reunion gives you some much needed "you" time.

I would like to share an answered prayer. My son has been miserable since he DOR'd from SWCC in Sept. He DOR'd b/c he realized he wouldn't be able to injure anyone. He has always wanted to help people not hurt them so he went to his Chaplain about his situation. The Chaplain strongly suggested to the Captain that my son should be designated as non-combatant. The Captain of my sons ship, The USS RENTZ, has recommended my son as a Hospital Corpsman. He will be sent to Great Lakes for A school when his ship gets back from deployment in November.

God does answer prayers!!!

Have a Happy Easter everyone.
